How important is it to have a nice high pylon to attach your tow rope to for wakeboarding? I'm just starting and my boat doesn't currently have a pylon. The medium height ones don't seem like they'd be to hard to build yourself.

You really don't need a pylon or a tower when you are just starting out. All they really do is add to your hang time. It also gives you upward lift so you are pulled straight off the wake when jumping. Its not that important but it sure does help.

Hey DaPhotoGuy,
Depending on how often you get to ride, you can go for several seasons learning the basics, getting your W2W's down, perfect switch riding, lots of surface tricks and get into jumping/grabs without a pylon/tower. Some folks can get inverts without one but I'll bet you gotta be pretty quick and have EXCELLENT carving skills.
Do you have a good Spectra mainline? You can check my gallery for pics of my pylon and go to Bill at Monster Tower's DIY site - he's been kind enough to post my "how to" build instructions - my pylon cost $80 and I drilled no holes in the boat to install it - so if you wanna go that route, advice is a mouse click away.
Oh yeah, welcome to the site...there are alot of very talented folks here with a whole lotta knowledge - good luck and have fun.

When I started wakeboarding I had a pylon....and then upgraded to a tower...the diffrence is pretty big..cause once your in the air the angle of the rope is higher which then brings you higher also...but if your startin out..no big deal..do what you can do..with what you have..then upgrade..then do the same thing..
