Pro's and Con's for both types of bindings?
Which do you prefer? _________________ "Pain is weakness leaving the body."

No Laces:
Pros: no time consuming things you have to buckle, tie, or tighten and a constant fit. Many are very very comfortable.
Cons: can be tough to get on without the ability to loosen up to slip on the binding and then tighten down. if it doesn't fit you, it doesn't fit you..(although there is some breakage innage). if you break an overlay..they are done until you get them fixed.
Laces, buckles, etc.:
Pros: adjustability. easy in, easy out. can fit other people and it does not mess up the fit and it fits them too if it is their general size. (in corespondance with the last part of the cons of laces buckles etc. although you may mbreak something on the binding.. it may be something minor and you still can ride with them until you get it fixed, so the "more to break" statement is only half true)
Cons: sometimes you may not tighten it the exact same amount and your fit can vary..more time consuming (although not being able to get into the No laces can be just as much, or more time consuming). more things to break, although easily fixeable and minor.
hope that gives you an idea, and I assume you are looking for bindings..goodluck finding those that suit you to your liking. _________________ Keep Austin Weird

NO LACES. People who don't know how to get in and out of bindings use laces...

| i like laces better cause you can get into them easy and tighten them so they are as tight as bindings without laces |

No laces: Simplicity in design and function.
Laces: Adjustability, some allow for better high ankle support.
The cons are pretty obvious for both, but savage3221 did a good job pointing them out. _________________

yeah savage3221, did point out alot of things.
but what i think is...if ur boots dont hvae laces then they possibly couldnt be tight enough. if u can get ur foot into it then its to loose....thats where laces come in. _________________ Visit www.myspace.com/alecperkins to listen to my music! |

wakeguy2008, not at all true. The natural suction caused by slipping your foot into such a small area actually holds very tight. Hence the need for some form of binding lube to get in, and sometimes to get out. _________________

chavez-y-chavez, i see what ur sayin but for me i like em tight. no area for movement...i guess they could be some awesome non-lace-ups like what i want but ill stick with the lace. _________________ Visit www.myspace.com/alecperkins to listen to my music! |

wakeguy2008, the Ultras and CD WS series are plenty tight as long as they are the right size. It also helps to own them and not let others ride (and stretch) them.
Trust me, when you are in a good suction binding you are IN. _________________

I have 2004 Parks (laced) and why I picked them was:
1) I can make the binding less tight across the top of my foot (used to get bad foot cramps)
2) I can really sinch down how tight the binding is around my ankle and up
I really like having the binding tight on my ankle, but not on my foot - the Parks provided that for me |

I like laces and had a set of customs that I re-assembled that were too tight. I had a double overlay on them so my foot literally would not come out after laced. It was a set of non-laced bindings with a lace overlay on top and I learned an important lesson: sometimes you want to come out of bindings. I couldnt figure out why I was so tired so quickly when riding and eventually found out some of my falls were a lot harder on my body when boots dont release. Imagine catching an edge on a tantrum to blind with NO GIVE, it sucks. Now I ride with tight laces but the way they were designed: one overlay. I also bought footbeds for the bindings and that paid off big time. All in all I spent maybe $50 for parks bindings through ordering parts from my local shop and retrofitting them. Good luck in your quest. Best advice try as many on as possible and narrow your search down to two then pur one on each foot and see which you like more. _________________ Hold up....Wait a minute.... don't just put on the bindings and be like "these are comfortable" after 30 seconds. yes they may be. but just to be safe wear them for like 5 minutes and see if your foot cramps at all or if they have any pressure points. I stand up on them at about my riding stance and lean one way and another from all different angles for a while to feel em out. then you have a better idea of what they REALLY feel like, and this may change your initial decision.

If you have lace up bindings my guess would be they wouldnt come out very easily on a fall. Is that more likely to cause injury becasue of that? Thats all im worried about really because I was thinking about getting laced bindings. _________________ KYRA |

No i would think that its better when you fall. I have fallen hard a couple of times and i have laces and velcro strap ( 03 parks ) they havent hurt me yet and its nice that they come out easy _________________ www.jetpilot.com |

Thanks, I was a little worried about my body going one way and my borad going the other. The results don't seem like they would be very good haha _________________ KYRA |

KYRA, unless you overtighten "lace" bindings you most likely will come out.
Your prediction is correct, if you do not come out it is worse than if you do, MUCH worse. _________________

you might be kidding but its true. since they started making lace up bindings people are getting lazy. I have had people buy generic lace up bindings over ultra sucs because they dont want to learn how to put them on. for those of you that dont know, you dont just jam your foot in, there is a method to easily get into laceless bindings.
Dont get me wrong I have ridden both and like both styles. I just like the fact that I can have both my feet in and be in the water a lot quicker without laces, plus screwing with the laces when you are in the water sucks. _________________ Does this rag smell like chloroform?

| I have a pair of hyperlite splits from a few years back that have a few velcro straps...i was able to set it up the way i like it and i haven't touched them since and they work fine...I just got a combo LF EVO board that came w/ the full lace-up bindings and I don't like how it holds me in compared to my 'lites. i brought along a friend that boards recently and let him use the lace-ups and he loves them...i just feel like there's less control...can't help ya with the ones that have no laces/straps/velcro but hope it helps |
