Just took a wakeboarding clinic Tuesday. After we all made fools of ourselves, our instructor went for a ride. Right away I noticed that he didn't get up like the rest of us (board floating in front, knees bent between arms). He kind of stood on the board and just went up. Later I asked him about it. He said he does it that way for two reasons - it looks cool, it puts a lot less strain on his back. He showed me how he did it (I haven't tried it so I'm not sure if it's as easy as he says). Basically...

Get the board underneath you almost like you are sitting on it. Knees bent. He said getting used to that is by far the hardest part of it. Then when the boat starts to pull, it's almost exactly like it is right after you take off normally, except you have skipped the part where the boat rotates you on top of the board. Does that make any sence? You still come up with the board pointing towards the shore, not the boat. Sounds good - someone give it a try and let us all know. I'm not sure if I'll be out again this year. The weather is turning foul here already and the reservoir is getting very low.

ya thats how most experienced riders get up. its really easy. you just want to pull your toes up so you get the whole hydrofoil effect. less strain on your back that way.

it is not hard at all... I got my litte brother(13yrs) to try it the other day and he popped right up. the only problem he had was getting the board into postion, which once learned too it is very simple.

whoa whoa whoa, I have never learned of this alternative to getting up. From what I gathered u just crouch with the board underneath you in the water. So is it like your doing a wallsit with your legs at a 90 degree angle? And does the board stay underneath you in the water the whole time? If somebody can explain it'd be greatly appreciated 'cuz I too am starting to feel some strain getting back up.

Go_Ride17, thats pretty much it. i like to get pretty low to the board when doing this because it will help you stay balanced and keep the board underneath you. then from there you just point your toes towards the boat and keep the handle into your waist.
