| I've been demoing boards and have just tried riding a CWB Flame finless. While I was doing it I was beginning to think that riding that way might force me to learn how to edge better especially on landings. Curious what everyone's opinion is... |

My board feels was too loose without fins and I couldn't ride that well... I prefer riding with fins... _________________ Support your local boardshop...

It depends on the board you ride. I could never ride my '03 Belmont completely finless b/c it was too slippery but my '04 Premier I would never go back to fins. I love it finless and when I first started riding it, if my form wasn't correct I would slide out so yeah I guess it did help my form. _________________ www.Tigeowners.com

im not sure if this is the right topic for this but i wanted to ask-
do you think i should take the fins off my parks ? i sorta like a loose feel and i have 2 1.3 fins on nose and tail so i dunno
when i wakesurf i prefer a skimboard over the hyerlite landlock with the huge fins but does that relate to wakeboarding at all? _________________ The words in this post are the opinion of wakeboarder.com |

jayman101010, I wouldn't recommend taking fins off your parts. But one thing I do recommend is getting smaller fins along the lines of 1.1's or even 0.8's. I don't think the surf has anything to do with wakeboarding because your not jumping wake and using a progressive edge in surfing. _________________ www.Tigeowners.com

jayman101010, Just swap your fins out like Davo.FSF said. You can do that on the landlock too. The .7 A-wings will get that parks loose for you.
This question is hard to answer. The best thing to do is go out and ride it finless and try some tricks. If you slide out on a few, try it with the fin. |

After riding a board with no center fin, I will personally never go back. You should demo or try a friends board to see the contrast. Dont get a board without a center fin just bc you are having trouble breaking loose on butterslides and think the fin is too big. If thats the case, you need more experience on the water, not a change in your gear. Finless boards are aimed more towards the concept of releasing off the wake without being locked in so hard, and also a loose feeling on landings to help you recover without that center fin catching and locking the board in. I do looove the feel.
Some of the major contrasts I see-- You have to roll into your edges slower when you start your approach, otherwise the board will start skimming the water and you wont start a true progressive edge. Also, there is less margain for error on wake jumps. You dont have that center fin to help you 'cheat' your way through the wake- so how you leave the wake is truly how you will land. But the feel on the water is so much better. If you cant quite get a clean release on your tantrums, or any trip flip release tricks, or you feel that you are getting yanked forward on wake jumps, try your board finless! |

I like riding finless. My board is always finless, however when i let my friends ride it they hate it. Just takes gettin used to, I think finless is more fun. When you get used to riding finless you have all the control you would with fins but if you screw up a landing it is more forgiving therefore much easier to recover, and it is just fun to be able to do butter slides so much easier. _________________ I once saw a fork lift pick up a pallet of forks, it was way too literal for me. |

I just rode my friends board finless and I will never go back probably. It feels so easy just sliding around on the surface, though you do have to practice more on cutting. But it will teach you to edge better anyway. My friend also has a CWB PT and put some big 2" or so middle fins on, and I've had some bad times with it, though he loves it. I just dont know why he hates finless, and I love it, but hes been riding longer than I have. _________________

riding finless teaches you to use your edge properly...Once you have your edge down and you do it with fins youll be able to cut like O.J. Simpson... _________________ Crownsville Wakeboard Team |

Yeah finless is a good idea. It forces you to learn how to use your edges to get speed and it makes you learn to stomp tricks instead of relying on surface tension.
If you ride in rough water a lot finless can be a biznit. You want as much traction as you can get if the water is bad. |

| I definitely prefer riding finless, I have an '03 CWB Absolute Pt and the molded fins are more than enough. I just tried it again with the center fin in today didn't like it at all. |

Finless is great until you start throwing advanced tricks. Ended up taking a slapper on a whirly that went 450 because I had no fins; got cleaned out. Atleast I think it was a whirly little fuzzy.... guess I could claim it as a whirly 5, lol, j/k. _________________ Hold up....Wait a minute.... Let me put some pimpin in it! mmmmph |

finless does improve your form - there is less room for error - when i ride finless - i need to think a little more about landing and such - i kinda like it. it is a bit of a challenge _________________ Worrying is a lot like a rocking chair, its something to do...but it won't get you anywhere. |
