Ok me and my dad are arguing over if i should use may fins or not and i like it better without my middle fins just 2 molded fins but learning w2w 180s and toeside w2w i slip out alot. Would it be better to learn without them or put them back on and land 180s consistently. By the way i ride a 2004 cwb absolute. All opinions will help. thanx..

Obviously, you shouldn't NEED fins if you land correctly. That said, however, I don't think any harm would come if you put the fins on as "training wheels" for learning these tricks.

You'll know if you land correctly or not, i.e. if the fins are helping you or not and I'm sure you'd get more practice if you didn't fall every other time you tried a 180 or TS jump. Once you can consistently land well, you should be able to take the fins off and not notice any difference.

If the fins help, put them on. From riding finless this long your edging should be good anyways. Stick the fins on, if they help keep them, if not ditch them.

salmon_tacos, you're right. If you "edge" correctly you won't need them. Having said that, I rode for 4 years with some big ass fins. That was before I learned the proper technique. If you do take them off, give it 3 good runs before you decide to put them back on. It takes a while to adjust.

fins will help you land easier and not slip out if you dont land perfect.

I second that Cap'n.

I rode my 02 premier finless untill about a month ago when I got the substance and I ride that with fins. they ride the same (the substance with the fins, the premier without), different boards ride differnet ways with and without their fins. if you learn them solid without the fins then you can always go back to the fins, or not if you don't want to. but if you learn them consistant with them in then you may have some trouble without them if you ever want to go to finless. but once you get the proper edging down, it would not really make a difference it is all about how you like it.

good luck with stickin them consistant and making your decision.
