|
|
| I have another question about the Sony MP80 cd/mp3 player. When mounting it, do you need room below the unit for the face to open up? The reason I ask is because I would be mounting this player back in one of those waterproof housings that a lot of boats have their stock head unit placed in. There really isn't much room at all below or above the actual mounting position of the player. Thanks for any help.

You should be fine. I mounted mine the same way and it works perfectly. Here's a pic of mine.

| jwat142, The MP80 is a sweet deck. I have one in my boat as well. I don't really like the new sony models and I'm bummed they don't make the MP80 anymore!

Yes you do need some room under the head unit. I have a plastic cover that protects the unit from getting water on it and every time I open it to put a CD in the face pops off. So make sure you have enough clearance or it will get annoying.

Space for the face to flip down is needed. Depending on the style of enclosure you have will determine if you have an issue.
My 80 sets a little deeper then that shown in the pic from BigDeal.
I have had to shave off a little material at the bottom front just to make sure the tray doesn't get hung up on the knobs because the face did bottom out on the lower ledge.
I also had to tilt mine more level which didn't help either. Most installs will be within the 30 degree range as stated in the manual for good operation but mine was not. Skipped like crazy till I leveled it out some.
Good luck
