PLEASE LOOK AT SECOND PAGE! NEW PICTURES THERE, THANKS!
Here's a backroll crash sequence for your viewing pleasure. Except putting both f'ing hands on the handle, any other tips for me to land that move before the end of the summer?
Thanks!

it looks like you are coming off your edge near the top of the wake. It looks like you might be hucking it too because it looks like you are leaning back before you ride up the wake. looks like a fun crash

you will get it, if you get a vid I could help you out a alot more but I can't see your cut, pop or handle placement. It appears you are holding on with your back hand

yeah I know, it's a f'ing bad habit I developped, I always let go of my back hand when I'm rotating, I would have to tape em on the handle with duct tape for me to stop doing this, but the bails are going to hurt a fair bit more
I don't have a camera that is able to dump his stuff on the comp, it sucks... Maybe I could go to Ontario, it's like what, 80$ for a plane ticket?
Just kidding you, thanks for the help

Love the sequence Good photoshop skillz!
Are you wakeboarding from a tower or pylon? Rope looks really low, and that doesn't help a whole lot. so i guess im asking where do you put your rope at

Ski eye... It REALLY sucks there, and our wake is pretty crappy too, but people we're doing backrolls before towers existed, so I should be able to do one too!

| it looks like you let go with your lead hand is what I'm trying to say. Even if you do get good pop it is going to take you to revert. As far as the pylon goes you can still do it, but your wake is a bit small. what kind of boat are you using? My first invert was a tantrum behind a 17 foot outboard.

It's an 18'5"' aluminium I/O... Maybe if we loaded it up at the front it would do a nice wake, but I don't have any money right now (worked at a boarshop and they mysterioulsy stopped giving me hours after having employed 2 girls, damnit)

I would definatly look into weighting it or getting a bunch of people to come inside the boat when you ride. For the old boat I rode behind we just filled those water containers that collapsed with water or sand and spread it around in the boat.
that sucks about the boardshop giving no hours.

REALLY hard.
I really had to master my progressive edge to clear that wake. It's just so wide it,s incredible, yu have to cut like a madman outside, then have a real good progressive edge, bend your knees before starting edging, and release all the enrgy you can by getting straight as you hit the wake.
I rode behind a moomba this summer, I got LAUNCHED when I rode that wake, I didn't even believe how much time I had in the air.

the wake makes a big difference. I rode behind a 18ft i/o and the wake looked alrite but it was way too soft, when I hit it would give no pop and just wash over. I did a tantrum but my head wasn't very high off the water. but when I went back to the boat I ride behind now I got launched way into the flats.

I wish I had a good wakeboard boat... *sigh* I know it's something that is breaking my progression SO much!

| ya but since you develop good technique when you get a good wake you will get launched and everything will be almost effortless.

that would be nice, but it is still possible to throw a backroll behind that wake. This wake isn't big but I got decent height on a tantrum. its a sea ray wake.

exactly what I was thinking.
If you stayed on edge and didn't flatten off you'd get more air.

| WakeBoardingManiac, as for backroll tips, heres what your doing wrong. First of work on handle placement. This is one of the most neglected parts of wakeboarding. Try keeping the handle closer in to your waist. THis will also help you keep both hands on the handle. Secondly, weight distribution. You've got way too much weight on your back foot in that second picture. work on that and post more pics. nice sequence.

ok so next time I go out riding, I'll be careful of not flattening out, I'll just get the best grip I can and get those 2 f'ing hands on the handle the whole time and try to put as much weight on the front foot that the back foot, and put my chin on my front shoulder. That should do it! I'll try and bring along the camera next time I go riding and see if I can do it at last...
Thanks all!

what Headless chicken said is good advice.
notice in the first image how your board is on edge? keep that edge to the bottom of the wake and then push your hips through the top of the wake and the handle down to your front hip. The second image you have a flat board before the wake even starts! This caused a loss of load so you didnt get all of the pop you could have got.
Also you can see how in both the first and second images, it looks as though you are very heavy on your back foot.
This may sound defeatist, but i would advise trying 180's and switch riding behind a wake like that. It will be hard to learn inverts on and may cause you to learn bad habits. An example of this is dropping your hands off the handle to early or trying to huck a flip. This will only hamper your riding in the long run. Hope you prove me wrong though.

You really need to keep that handle down by your waist and in the middle of your body as well - pop comes from mostly all rope tension, and with the handle up there not only will you have virtually no pop, but no control of the board in the air either.

| the best thing that i found is that if you keep the handle close to your body you will rotate really fast and they you dont need as much air. Try taking a progressive cut into the wake and dont come off your edge. Then when your in the air keep the handle in towards your front hip and you will rotate really fast. Hope that helps

| vision135, you should easily be able to backroll without bending your knees. If anything would speed the rotation up it would be keeping the handle in.
