I'm running 2400 lbs of ballast in a mastercraft sportstar right now and am burning about 8 gallons/hour. In a larger wakeboarding style boat would you possibly burn less even with the same amount of ballast because those hull shapes are easier to sink?

8's pretty good, I'm closer to 10 gph

Wakeboard boats weren't designed with fuel concerns as a major concern

Try to avoid WOT runs, if fuel cosumption is a concern. That's about all you can do

I run between 6 and 8 gph depending on how many people are out with us, and how much the rider crashes...

it's the takeoff that really burns fuel...

I burn about 4-5 gals / hr. (1500lbs balast - 310HP 350MPI '00 Ski Centurion v-drive). Holly shizzle on the 8- 10 gals/hr - that seems really high compared to other boats. That is like 40 gallons of gas or $70 every 4-5 hours!

bmartin, Yeah buddy - my boat holds 52 gallons and I've been averaging about 5.5 hours between fill ups

I'm at 65 hours now - I'm hoping that it will be broke in soon, and start giving a little better mileage...

Sky Supreme 208 w/ 350 Mercrusier - MPI (315 HP @ crank)

I have the 1/4 gear reduction - and I think that's eating into my mileage...

I've got an 89 Malibu Skier 350Mercruiser engine and 500lb fat sac in the rear with 6 people and I can get about 2.5 gph as long as I don't take long runs around the lake. The ramp we normally use is right in a cove and we usually don't leave that cove, but as soon as we take off around the main part of the lake, my gas mileage goes way down.

Man, you guys better hope the environmentalists don't see this thread.. Those SUV haters will become staunch WB boat haters and next thing you know there will be a bunch of nudist women protesting at the docks... Hmmm... nm, carry on.

And to keep on topic.. I never burn over 25gal a day. I'm guessing maybe 5 gallons per hour with 6 people. But we don't have any ballast in the boat either.. that will change soon. Then again we probably have more than average wipe-outs.

When we moved from a 175hp jet boat I barely notice a difference in gas consumption though. If anything we use less. I'm guessing maybe because it was a 2-stroke V6 and we always did powerturns when turning around...

2006 VLX- We run maybe 6-9 hours a day on the weekends. Sometimes no Ballast. Sometimes ballast full with 8 people. It depends on the skill level of the wakeboarder and how many people pile in the boat. After 330 hours, about 25 liters/hour average which is about 6.5 gallons.

I burned 36 gallons today in my Malibu 23 LSV with the 340 Monsoon, stock MLS ballast and wedge. We were on the lake a total of 9 hours, engine running probably at least 7.5-8 hours. 5 adults and 5 kids in the boat, and we made an extra 15-mile run each way down Lake Mead at 4500 rpm to explore the lake. I figure about 5 gph, which is almost identical to what I averaged with my last boat, a 1991 Malibu 20' direct-drive boat with 2000 lbs of ballast. Of course, it is all very conditional on how much time you spend at high-rpm's.

In our boat it is about 7-8 between fillups. On my cousins X-9 it seems to be 10 or 11 GPH

Is it just me, or does 11 GPH seem pretty unrealistic?

The thing is a pig. We almost ran out of gas one night put 15 gallons in the next day and went for just over an hour of strait wakeboarding.
