Hey guys... I'm not entirely new to forums in general (other hobbies such as R/C and my Ford truck), but I'm new to the wakeboarding forums and the terms and such!!! I guess I can start off by telling you guys a little bit about myself... I'm 17 and we own a TigerShark 900 and a 115 horsepower boat for all of our pulling. I started off with kneeboarding quite a few years ago and got pretty good at it, I've also participated in other types of similar water sports. But one day I tried wakeboarding at my friends house and I absolutely loved it!!! So this year for my birthday, my parents bought me a wakeboard. I don't even know what kind of board or bindings I have. I didn't check the bindings for a name or anything, but the board doesn't say much on it. Anyways, I've been doing quite a bit since then and I think I'm ready to build a ramp. After looking around and stuff, I noticed that your ramps don't have curves on them??? They're just straight... Why??? Wouldn't they work better if the ramps had a curve? Also, I've got most of the ramp planned out, I just need help with the surface material? I don't know what to use? Lastly, is it possible to make this ramp so that I can use it with my kneeboard as well? Thank you for reading guys!

sounds to me like you are getting a little ahead of yourself there.

Welcome to the forums. The ramps are fine straight. Your being pulled remeber so thats how you get your air. Don't know what material and yes you can amke one for a kneeboard as well but your sure are crazy to go off it.

I don't think I'm getting ahead of myself... It's not going to be a huge ramp. Just a smaller one to start off with. Wink

For the kneeboard, I figured that I can build a ramp for it... But I was wondering if I'll be able to use my kneeboard off the same ramp that I build for my wakeboard??? If there's a specific way I gotta do something to make the ramp compatible with both boards. Cool

And thanks for the replies, I'll try the sliders forum tomorrow then. Getting tired, gonna go to bed now! Laughing

colefooter, I'm thinking he wants to build it because he wants to. I'm satisfied with using the wake as a ramp, but thats just me. I heard hitting ramps (I never have before) is pretty hard and so summit_rules, you might want to be sure your a pretty consistent rider before you start launching off ramps at 20 something mph. Good luck.

Yes ramps can be very painful from what I hear. Takes a little bit of knowledge/experience to not kill yourself. I'd spend more time on the water with the wakeboard and then try the ramp. Unless you have ski jumped before or hit ramps before then I would say get comfortable with the wakeboard and you'll do fine.

Ramps = Kickers. I guess his boat doesn't throw much wake so a kicker might not be a bad idea. I do think you are getting a little ahead of yourself here though. I would make sure you can at least clear the wake and have a good progressive edge. You need to be really solid on the board also.

Watch out for sliding things so early also. It will void the warranty on your wakeboard if you hit a slider or a kicker.

Some kickers are curved... it makes it a little tricker to launch off but it will pop you higher. I wouldn't build a kicker too high if you're going to be doing it on a kneeboard... ouch. Dropping 6 feet straight on your knees... not my idea of fun

What's a progressive edge???

I might be getting ahead of myself... But it's not going to be a huge jump or anything. Just a small begginer kicker, and then when I get good at that, I'll build a bigger one. The other reason I'm building the kicker smaller is because I wanna use it for my kneeboard.

And thanks for that reply Wakebrad. A curved kicker would be tougher to hit.

summit_rules, okay ALL kickers have curves to them. youre gonna want to build just a straight ramp if you want to use it for both boards. my guess would be youre going to eat major crap the first time you go off of it. get comfortable on it. can you do ollie tricks? where are you at? oh, and for top material i believe pvc sheeting would work.

It sounds to me like you may need to learn to ride first, get comfortable with w2w and surface tricks before you try a ramp.

Hmmmm... From what you just said in your first two sentences, you're telling me that if I ride more, I'll find out what a kind of board and bindings I own and what progressive edge is?!?!?!?! Seemed kinda rude to me. Nice way to reply to my first thread in the wakeboarding forums!!! The other forums I visit (such as FTW) would be much nicer with their replies and wouldn't try to look better than me (even though I'm a newbie).

Just because I'm a newbie in the forums, and I don't know what a progressive edge is... Doesn't mean I can't do it. Maybe I do it all the time but I just don't know that it's called a progressive edge! And if you told me what it was, then I could try it or whatever. I'm sorry I don't spend hours learning all the wording and stuff for wakeboarding!

Once again guys, this is just gonna be a small kicker. I don't think I'm gonna kill myself on it. What's the worse that can happen, I don't land and fall over. I'm obvisouly not gonna hit this kicker going 50mph! Thanks for your concern, but I know what my limits are!

summit_rules, definitely learn more about wakeboarding before trying a ramp.

go to wakebaorder.com and look up trick tips and then progressive edges and other beginner tricks

Can I suggest from a safety point of view, that you wear a helmet for this.

I went over a jump several times for my instructors award and remember nearly slicing my ear off on some of the practise attempts. I must of gone 100 miles down for it fealy like eternity floating back to the surface. Of course this may be due to the fact that I am 225LB!! D'Oh
