How can I troubleshoot my transmission?
Why? My transmission fluid doesnt look too good.
Its kinda pinkish /brown.
Any suggestions appreciated. _________________ Boats run on gas, not thanks! |

2000 Momba Outback LS 230 Hours
ZF 630 A
What made me check was a squeeking sound (like car brakes) when I would idle.
The boat runs fine but Im afraid something might be on the works. _________________ Boats run on gas, not thanks! |

| If you have 230 hours, the fluid needs to be changed. The fluid needs to be changed every 100 hours. |

| If it was standard automatic trans fluid and it looks like strawberry milk that is usually a sign of water in the tranny |

Im clear on that but how would water get in?
Ive read when you flood the bilge and is possible it can leak in.
How true that is I dont know.
Can a tranny go bad that soon?

| Could be if the bilge flooded badly that water could have gotten in through the breather, every auto tranny will have an air breather, that would be my guess on how water would get in. Usually a blowing trans will not turn the fluid pink. How low does the trans sit and if you look in can you see any breather point? |

I seriously believe thats how it happened since its been flooded a few times cuz of the rain. _________________ Boats run on gas, not thanks! |

| What about your bilge pump, did that not keep up or did it fail? The breather should be on the top of the trans, you might want to get a piece of automotive fuel line and extend the breather up if this has happened a few times |

| Most of my experience is with automatics in cars, what you are probably gonna have to do is change the fluid, run it a short period of time, maybe an hour tops, change it again, run it the hour and change it again. What you will find is that you won't be able to get all the water out with one change and water is one of the quickest things to destroy a tranny. Good luck man |
