mexi roll looks more like your doing a frontroll, it is commonly referred to as a hs frontroll but really it is a mexi roll. backroll is like a reverse cartwheel in the air. backroll is easier because you can spot your landing easier.

Backroll, from what I can tell, isn't a STRAIGHT reverse cartwheel. I have tried it like that and keep digging in the front of my board. In a straight cartwheel, your board would be pointing in the same direction as your body travel all the time, when instead every shot I've seen of a backroll has the board pointing towards the boat at the point of being inverted. Backroll, from what I can see, goes UP like a reverse cartwheel, but when you're upside down, your back leads you out while the board comes down and around. Just my observation...

You guys really like to complicate simple tricks!

The basic difference is the take off.

Mexi - The head drops down then the board rotation starts with the kick of the wake.
more rail to rail

HS Backroll - You look up and away as you are progressively edging through the wake.
more tip to tip.

Don't get all technical on me I know it's not truly a tip to tip rotation but its more like that than the Mexi.

oh, and there's also this aspect:
backroll- cool
mexiroll- sloppy and lame

If I offended anyone, I apologize in advance.

mexi rolls aren't too sloppy and are usually done with roll to blinds and has to be done in a kgb.

This is the second post I've read that you've said this in.

In my opinion, if you are landing good W2W like you said in the other post. Also if you are getting good pop off the wake there is nothing to stop you trying it now!

Aslong as you commit to doing the roll you won't get hurt. In my experience the only time it hurts is when you back out of it at the last minute!

Go for it Daniel....You'll be pleased you did even if you don't land it!!!!

Good luck! Colorful

mexican rolls don't look as good and i's a slower roatiating, at least with me. many people want to do mexican rolls because it's like they can do on a tramp. because you can do a backroll on a tramp, but it's not like it is on the water so they aren't used to it.
wakeguy2008, the reason it's not in any instructionals is because a mexican roll is a "no-no" unless doing KGB's or roll to blinds. not as fundamently sound.
