Hey bteat88,
You want a NO stretch rope, that's why folks are using Spectra. The rope can be about 65 or 70 feet - most are sold with several divisions at about 5 feet so you can change the length to maximize your position relative to the wake....(boat speed, ballast, etc. have affects on the wake shape at various distances behind the boat)
Hope this helps

ski ropes are okay as long as it's no stretch. The length each person uses really depends on were the wake is good for their boat. Like Wes said, most ropes have 5 foot sections that can be removed to make it shorter. They usually come 65-75 feet total. _________________ Some female cows have horns, but you wouldn't really know anything about that now would you? |

| Also ski rope handles tend to be narrow. Wakeboard handles are about 15 inches wide. |

| The length of the rope depends on your wake. I've always been told that you need to have your rope out so the biggest part of the wake with the least whitewash. My rope is actually 75 feet, so you just have to figure out what works for you and your boat. |

| Nah I don't think if you're a beginner you need a shorter rope... I don't think there would be any benefit. |

Hi RhondaStarr,
The reason a beginner might like a shorter rope is that the wake is narrower as you get closer to the boat, thus easier to clear the wake & build some confidence/learn what it's like to land in the flats.
That having been said, let me also say that I think learning a proper progressive edge is harder with a shorter rope - you have less time for a decent setup. So, basically I agree with you, but some people may want to give a shorter rope a shot.
Merely my opinion, however. _________________ "Practice, man, jus' practice" - Wynton Marsalis
