I'm a new boarder and I'm getting pretty comfortable riding and I'm just getting used to healside jumps regular stance. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to try to remove the fins on a movement 140. I have a lot of difficulty doing surface 180s and was wondering if that would help with that and other things...

yes, it would help with that, and would help you learn how to edge better. But once you get the feel of it put the fins back on and learn the surface 180 that way, it's mostly about weight shifting.

alrighty. I'll have to give that a shot. I'm just starting to go nuts with jumping that I haven't really focused on any surface tricks at all. I also have to work on switch stance and being comfortable with that... any ideas for that? I can get up right from the start switch, but I am really unstable... especially toeside...

triscuit42, sounds like you're doing good. It's good to start working on your switch early. I don't know what size fins you have but you might want to try getting smaller fins instead of just taking them off. It will probably be too slippery for you to do decent wake tricks so you'll have to go back and fourth if you want to do surface spins. I would get like some .7"s on there and use those all the time. It will help you learn to edge correctly and give you enough hold to get good cuts into the wake. But it will also make it easier for surface spins.

When you're trying to learn a surface 180 try it while the boat is getting up to speed. Or tell the driver to slow down to 12-15 mph. It is much easier at slow speeds. Then once you start figuring it out then speed it up.
