Here is my problem, I installed a norton firewall last night and now my Launchcast(radio on yahoo) doesn't work. I spoke with our I.T. guy this morning and he told me I needed my ip address to find out which http port the program is using. He has a heavy accent and I'm not sure what he told me about using the ip address to find the port number. How do I find out what port is used so I can tell the firewall to allow it through. Please help me, I'm about to look like grouch's avatar. _________________ http://www.integrity-wake.com

If you have logging turned on for the firewall you should be able to look at the log file and see what port it is attempting to access. It may be something simple like port 80 (standard http port) but I couldn't find any technical info on Yahoo's site.
I think the IT guy meant that if you have the IP address of your pc then you could do a port scan to see what ports are open (meaning listening for traffic). But you would have to shut down the firewall software for it to work. There are several free port scanners available for download - just do a search for free port scanner utility and you should be able to find one. |
