OK guys. I've found a couple of 3-4year old Wakesetter VLX's. I'm very interested in them, but I have questions. Do they throw a fair wake when they only have the 500lb MLS center ballast filled? Later on I will probably have bags plumbed in to the rear compartments.
Does anyone know about how much it costs to get a wedge installed?
How deep does the wedge run in the water?
Or should I ditch the wedge idea, and just go with weight?
Can some of you Malibu owners post pics of your wake and tell me about your ballast set up?
I don't know of anyone around here with a Bu. So I'm asking a lot of questions. Hard for me to demo, since I'm looking for used.

Your best bet would be to go on a test ride with a dealer.
The wedge only rides just underneath the bottom. It's down force, they say is equivilent to 500 lbs. The wedge is about $1000 option. Effective only up to 25 MPH or so. Many use combination wedge and fat sacks. Others use fat sacks only.
The wake is crisp with good pop, but it's all in the riders opinion of what they like and what they don't like. We saw an 04 VLX loaded with people and sacks and the wake was awesome!
With any wide beam V-drive inboard, you can tailor the wake just about any way you want it by experimenting. In all, the 60/40 rule applies to weight balancing.

| Heres my wake, its a sunsetter (basically same as wakesetter) because it has internal ballast and wedge. It was on a windy day so the wake is kind of sloppy, but when its nice outside, the wake rocks.

I have an 01 21' VLX.. I have the Hippo ballest system installed (about 2500lbs total)... huge wake.
There are some Malibus that you DO NOT want a wedge on, and others that you do. For instance with the 01 21' VLX, you do not want the wedge, but on the 23 footer you do....

This is a pic I have posted many times before but, I got a new camera and I can't get the size down to post any new ones.
Anyways, 02 DD Wakesetter with 500# in the bow, wedge and about 5 or 6 people. 23 mph 70ft.

Here's a video of my BU with the following setup:
1. 550 lb locker sack, but it's probably not full (maybe 350 or 400 tops)
2. 140 lbs extra under the front seats in the bow.
3. 600 lb sac behind the engine between the back seat and the engine
4. 100 lbs under the back seat.
5. Wedge
6. 3 peeps in the boat including the driver.

I've got an 01 vlx and i run two side sacks in the bow the center stock mls and two v-drive sacks in the back plus the wedge i had put on. I'm 6'4" and the wake is up and above my knee and clean as hell. The wedge adds some nice vert to the wake which definately compliments it's rampiness.

The wedge doesnt just add some vert though, it adds that lip that kinda bucks you up. Just make sure to take your first jump on it a little eas I like the lip now that im used to it.
