why don't you hang yourself so your parents don't have to deal with a spoiled little b*tch. Seriously, any boat is better than no boat. You can make do with what you have, at least your parents are buying something. If my kid acted like you, he sure as hell wouldn't be getting a boat.

wtbamoomba, first off insulting your parents will not get you very far. It is very nice that they are willing to front the 10k for a boat that you will probably be the primary user.

Second... Check out older ski boats (1980's)... Here's a link that has pictures and information about 1982-1989 Ski Nautique 2001 boats. click here

Ask most people and they will agree these are good boats and can be found for under 10k. You might also look at older mastercrafts, ski brendella, ski centurion, and malibus.

Your hunt for a good wakeboard boat is not over but you are going to have to look.

wtbamoomba, I've seen 7 people but I would probably limit the boat to 6 or less. I'm sure other SN2001 owners have had more in thier boat or could tell you more about it.

Go to www.boattraderonline.com and look for 1982-1989 Correct Craft Ski Nautique 2001

You will find them priced between 6k-12k. Take your pick and you can buy a tower add ballast and have a good boat.

GROW UP! I'm sure they are please you revealed their income. Nice touch.

Why not just settle with a PWC - then leave your mean and stingy parents at the dock.

It's not easy being a teenager - previous generations have messed everything up, politics and corporations are corrupt, everything fun is either illegal or expensive, and everyone is telling you how to run your life. (for starters)

But you can look at the negative in everything or you can have a positive attititude: Hey guys, my parents have decided to buy a boat! Unfortunately we can't budget much more than about $10k - what can I expect to find out there?

Give your parents a break and work with them not against them. If they see you act responsibly and help out with the care and maintenance of the boat, they may even decide to upgrade it in a few years.

My brother and I bought a Bayliner Capri (4cyl I/O) for $8000 canadian and added a pylon. It was a great boat with a nice clean wake and gave us years of fun. For 10K (US I assume) you should have something pretty decent.

Remember to save some money for any changes you may want ... ballast, tower, etc..

theres plenty of nice boats out there under 10k we have a 18' 92 sea ray only had 60hrs on the engine, so many extras including hydrolic steering, mouring and full bimini covers skis, life jackets etc. thing was garaged so it was mint. just have to know where to look and be patient, because if you arent and you go for the first boat you see you probably will find yourslef with a money pit. I wish i had a malibu r nautique, but what we have is fine.

Hey,

one of my friends just bought a 1989 surpa meriah. The boat was in decent shape, just painted, and cost them $8000 U.S., they had the same budget, and then added some sacs to it for $300 with pumps, and a pylon rather inexpensively. Their neighbours have a 2003 mastercraft X-30 which sits on the lift 'cause we're all always out in teh supra, 'cause it throws a better wake.

Damn! I wish I had ten grand to buy a boat, I seem to manage with my old I/O. I have fun wakeboarding behind anything, and when I do get to ride behind a good boat I am extremely grateful. Maybe you sould reexamine why you wakeboard, is it for fun or do you do it for the image?

I paid $6,000 for the Dixie Skier. I've dropped maybe another $2k in the past three years on the tower, ballast stystem, new carpet, maintence and other upgrades.. She produces a respectable wake and is a lot of fun w/o breaking the bank.. She's no SAN, Tige, Supra, etc, but she gets the job done well. The only down fall is there is no room w/sacs all over the place. I plan on keeping her until I can afford to upgrade to a V-drive.

Can't add anything sensible to this thread other than what's already been said except that the original post reminds me of the bumper sticker that says:

Hire a teenager whilst they still know everything.

When I got my first boat, a 13' Whaler with a 20HP Merc, I was so excited I thought my parents walked on water. I cut lawns, worked at my dads shop and washed cars to cover all the insurance and gas costs which was part of the deal in getting the boat. I eventually saved enough to get a 50hp merc and thought I had the baddest ride on the water!

It would be a great show of sincerity if you offered to cover some of the expenses. Sounds like you have fiscally responsible parents that are also planning for other things like your college expenses and their retirement.

Go easy on us old people and when you just cant take anymore just move out and go buy your own boat Very Happy

Whatever you get, it beats an old Nissan and a drainage ditch with snow on the banks!

You can definately find a good boat for wakeboarding for under $10k. Such as the SN2001s. If you want a direct drive or a v-drive, you won't find an open bow for $10k. I don't know how happy your parents would be in buying such an old boat anyways. They would either have to be willing to do the repairs themselves, or be prepared to have it in and out of the shop. Older boats are going to have problems no matter how well they've been maintained. I wish there was a thread of a list of all the i/os people have experience with, and know they throw a good wake. Someone was saying they had a friend with an old '88 i/o that threw a better wake than his brand new mailbu. If we had a list of the i/os with a good wake you could try to convince your parents of that, they will be a lot cheaper.

So, my whiney little teenage kid want me to go into MORE debt over him and buy a boat out of our budget range.

Even though I pay the insurance, both physical and car, feed the bugger, provide a roof over his pointy little head, pay the dental bills, all the school bills and everything. My wife buys him that crap gel and mousse like he was a little girl fussing over her hair...

Then he bitches about mowing the lawn and cleaning his room too and doing dishes?

Sheesh!

i told them we should get rid of cable since no one watches it, and our home phone line, since we have 5 cell phones lying around at any given time... as for me personally, they wont let me get a job... they say "school" should be my only job and priority

Start doing things that your parents pay other people to do...Mow the Lawn, wash windows, wash their cars, bath the dog (cat or whatever you got), clean the house, do work around the house...not only will it save your parents money, they can use that money towards a boat, and you learn invaluable skills for when you have your own place.

My Buddy has a 74 Correct Craft for sale he wants like 4500 bucks and it's in perfect condition. It has a sick stereo and a rebuilt cleveland in it. I want to buy the boat just to drive it around like a bat out of hell the boat will do 55 mph i have no idea how the wake would be but it's a fun little boat. It also was the only boat not to break down or sink on the houseboat trip i went on last month.

This thread has really made me think, especially about how I'm raising my kids. As much as we "old folks" have contributed to the "previous generations that have messed everything up" we also work our tails off to make all the ends meet, plan for the future and live for today to the best of our abilities. I'd trade jobs (OK, before Monster Tower) with any kid out there. Your at the part of your life everything only keeps getting better, and someone else is paying for it all. That's a great gig while you can get it!

I don't know what I would do if I was about to get a boat that one of my kids was really excited about only to read that his viewpoint on my generosity was a post at a discussion board titled "so my stingy parents say they wont buy a boat over 10k...", along with our family income. I would divert funds if I was not into boarding. I would certainly be first shocked, then rather pissed off after about 10 seconds Twisted Evil

Please say you really don't look at it the situation that way Shocked

Lighten up on them, they never got an operating manual or troubleshooting guide for you! Their willing to spend $10K on a boat so you can wakeboard and your dissin then.

You think "It's not easy being a teenager", wait until you get to raise one Very Happy

ok, so there was a lot of sarcasm in my original post, which is bad because emotions cannot be shown over the internet very well..... so please, enough of the "you dont deserve to live you worthless piece of life, kindly end yourself" posts and please quit wasting bandwidth and give me some constructive advice/criticism on my options

holy christ i have a feeling im gonna get some flak for this post also...lol

MonsterTower, I agree to a certain extent but not completely. Some parents are just that, PARENTS. I know that I was taught how to work along with how to play from my parents. Hard work was always rewarded with hard play. Of course I hated day-care and chose to go to work with my dad in the summers. For as long as I can remember I've been on job sites or in the shop working so I could play.

I think some parents fail to pass on the work ethic but the toys and fun are passed on. I can see this with some of my friends who struggle to understand work but have the expensive habits that a successful business person enjoys.

Your parents are very intelligent. They probably don't want to shell big money on another endeavor that will be forgotten in a few months like the puppy, bike, motorcycle, select baseball, tae-known-do, surfing, snow skiing, football, etc. etc.

Be grateful they are putting in $10,000 for a boat. If you want more, show them its more than a passing interest: be thankful for it, take care of it, baby it, learn about it, pay for the parts/gas, save money for a differen't one, work on it with your dad.

The rest will take care of itself. Remember new is not necessarily better and the minute you take it off the lot its used.

You are looking at this all wrong. What have you ever spent 10k on? If you had a little brother and you were going to hook him up with a dirt bike and you could spend 1500. How would you feel if he said my tight wad brother wont get me a better bike? In this ecconomy you're lucky they are buying anything at all. They probably can't afford the 10k. If you're not happy with their choice then be a man and tell them save your money because I'm too spoiled to enjoy what you are doing.

Or they can afford it but would rather pay cash for the boat. 10k after sales tax and registration brings the boat near 10% of their total income for the year. Remember about 25-35% of thier income is taxed, plus state income tax, plus property tax, plus SSI (and all those taxes) plus registration on all their vehicles, plus health-dental-homeowners-car-boat insurance, plus rent or payments on the house, plus food, plus clothing, plus gas, plus entertainment cost, plus retirement, and the list goes on. 10k can buy a lot of vacactions and other fun things. Despite your thoughts maybe they try to live on a strict budget and are planning for their retired future.

I hear ya nor cal. I remember my first pay check many moons ago. I thought where did all the money go. I earned more than this. The real world sucks.

I was wakeboarding behind a wave runner in the begining. My parents never had a boat or a desire to get one. Not once did I think they were stingy.
