Hey ladies.... I was wondering if any of you own or have ridden any Blindside boards... specifically the Flower 132 (2004)? I thought it was so cute and since i'm only a beginner, graphics tend to be more appealing to me than performace. My boyfriend is trying to discourage me from getting it (says Blindside isnt a good board company) and wants me to get the HL Nyx 135 instead. I just started riding this summer and for some reason, a 3 stage rocker intimidates me. Is the Nyx a better board for me or is my boyfriend trying to con me into getting it so he can ride it too?? Help! (hope he doesn't read this hahaha) Shocked

I never rode a Blindside, but like every other board, some people love 'em and some hate 'em. Demo boards if you can. Borrow other peoples' boards if they will let you if you can't demo.

If you are not sure you'll like the sport, I would look around and buy a used board for now. It's cheaper and you can almost always get close to what you bought it for out of it.

Have fun Very Happy

Lisa

It sounds like your boyfriend is going for hype rather than what's good for you. First off Blindside is a good board company. They have been around for a long time. If your boyfriend hasn't looked at any other companies besides Hyperlite he is doing himself a disservice.

That flower board looks perfect for a beginner. It has a lot of stability and traction. The Nyx is a much more agressive board that would probably hinder you more than it would help for a couple years. It is harder to get consistent pop off a 3-stage rocker than continuous.

Wakebrad, yea, I thought it sounded good! and it wasn't very expensive either (which I was def. appealing!) haha. I figure I have plenty of time to buy an aggressive board Wink Thanks for your help!

wkbrdmdw'sGF -- I am looking for my third board right now and from where I stand your first board should be what YOU want! Go for something that is steady and consistent and not too agressive - let your BF get the 3stage rocker! I haven't ridden any blindisde boards but they are a reliable company for certain.

Spend a little more on bindings if you have any extra cash. Look for a nice thick footbed - my first pair of bindings were entry level "universal fit" and they were awful! My arches would bruise from easy riding and they would never really fit right. If you get a chance shop around a little and examine the footbeds and the sizing devices. I myself prefer laces to the kind with overlays that you have to unscrew, tighten, and rescrew. Most bindings and boards are interchangeable so you can mix and match the brands (but ask to be certain before you buy).

Lizrd, i have a pair of HL spins right now... but I saw the Vargas bindings and thought they were adorable! They werent as expensive as some other brands, so I hope price doesn't necessarily reflect quality. They looked like they had a lot of padding, too. Heard anything about the Vargas?

I finally got the bf to agree I don't need such an aggressive board. Wink I think he's just so pumped about me picking up the sport he wants me to progress as fast as i can!
