windshield help

I went today to get a quote on a new windshield for my '97 malibu tantrum. The windshield is one solid piece of lexon, or lexan; however you spell it. I got quoted at $250 just because finding a 10' x 4' sheet of 1/8" thick tinted lexon is supposed to be difficult to obtain and expensive. $170 for the piece, plus shipping, plus the shop's labor costs. I am going to try and call malibu's corporate office and see if I can talk to anyone about how they got theirs and maybe, hopefully, keeping my fingers crossed, that they might have a spare one lying around. I know that they no longer carry parts, but I'm just hoping for the best.

Would I be paying too much? Is this really the story about lexon?
If any of you have any advise, or (positive) comments, please let me know. They would be greatly appreciated.

$250 sounds reasonable considering the availability of the materials. I paid $300 to replace my truck windshield which is fairly common.....
