with windows movie maker is it possible to play a song you have downloaded on to your computer over the footage you have recorded if so how? IM a serious n00b when it comes to this stuff so specifics would be great thanks.

If it's from napster, musicmatch, or a similar "pay to download" site you will not be able to bring that song into an editing program because of the digital rights protection.

Let us know if that is not the case?

its not from that its just an mp3 file on my computer, how do I put it as background
music with movie maker.

you just go import file then import the video, drag and drop it in to the timeline. then you'll do the same thing but import the audio track, but you'll just put it under the video. their will be two audio timelines, one is the audio from the movie one will be the song then their is a button one the far left above the timeline that will allow you to change the levels.
