|
|
How do you get bigger air on backrolls? How do you keep from landing on your butt? I landed my first backroll this weekend but next time want to get them bigger and land a higher percentage of them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Mauser |

The biggest thing that will help with both taking it bigger and not buttchecking is increasing your line tension-- really turn on your edge when you get to the trough of the wake. Squeeze tight, dig your heels in, and think 'up'.
Dont let the handle get away from your hips unless you are over-rotating- if thats the case then try letting it out a little on the way down. |

| I think you should just keep taking them little, if you landed it you should just work on that more than trying to go bigger. |

I am actually agreeing with colefooter on this one. I learned them not even clearing the wake, and my technique turned out fine. Make sure you are edging as hard as you can, charging the wake. Pull the rope into your hips as hard as you can and turn your head so you are looking at where you want to go, not at the water. Your mind will want to take you to where it can see. When you are looking at any given location throughout your flip, you are going to lose your center balance and land on your a$$. A good way to think of it is that your head stays in the same place while your body rotates around your head. This isn't actully going to happen in reality, but it's one of those mental things that really help you out. Flipping is something you just need to work out on your own, but just keep looking at where you want to go, and that is where you will land. Sorry if that is all confusing, but it really is a hard thing to explain. Good luck and save your ass for the more brutal slams...they get worse and you are going to need a nice landing pad for when you eff up |

my theory= haul @$$ into the wake and just throw it normally and it will pull really hard but u shall fly, it works for me and good luck with your attempts _________________ Broke, Unsponsored, Carless, Broken donor cycle, 18 credit hours... and i drive to class wheeliein my sisters 49cc scooter... yea im bawlin |

Wait till you get all the pop you can off the wake and take a nice big cut at it. Once you feel your pop and get lauched then start your rotation. Maybe even try to do it layed out. I don't know if that can be done, because I am still working on landing one... _________________ Wakeboard/Waterski/Kneeboard/Ride Random Objects

I think the previous ways work.. But have you tried them on the tramp.. the side flip motion feels the exact same.. minus the cut and poping. IF you can do it that way then do it.. But for me I did about 20 miles an hr and tried them inside out.. I almost landed them then, so I took it w2w and landed one my second try. They were actualy like orbital 3s but it worked for me and I fixed them soon after liek the next tiem out riding.. so maybe try that. _________________ I wakebaord, wakeskate,do anythign stupid, hurt others and have fun doign it. |

Motive,
Thats what I am kind of worried about. I want to try one but all I can do now is like a unconsistent wake to wake. I want to start landing 180's but when I ride fakie, everything is off. Any tips for riding fakie other then releasing your back hand? _________________ got wake? |

Yea time on the water, it's hard and unnatural but just do it. Also how does one throw an inside out backroll. _________________ Wakeboard/Waterski/Kneeboard/Ride Random Objects

i jsut change my name from motive so same guy here:) well i find if you pop 180's then it is easier to get used to going switch just go out into the flats and ollie then huck a 180 after you get used to that start from inside the wake and do a 180 out then try onme off the wake inside but not w2w after u are comfy there do the w2w 180 then after that throw in a grab.
Back roll- I need some more hieght but my wake is pretty small so i rotate too fast and i land with my knees bent i can get around but its too fast of a rotation so i land then my board flip out from underme to the side. |

simland, I think Lantzvillian, means from inside the wake to outside the wake. (I don't think he has a trick called the "inside out backroll" that none of us have heard of) If you can almost land a backroll this way you are probably going to be able to do it fine wake to wake. It sounds like quite good advice to me, it will force you to learn your rotation properly as you won't be getting the height you get off a normal wake jump.
I am still learning to do backrolls, I started learning a while ago but I injured myself when I got nearly all the way round and the nose of the board went into the water first and one binding came off and ***ked my leg! I have now gone back to just trying to get more height on my wake jumps as my rotation was fine I just wasn't getting the height. I am now getting masses of height and am ready to try them again! Will be trying this weekend, will let you all know the progress! |

backrolls are all about line tension, so keep the line tension as long as possible, never let up on the edge, which will increase speed and line tension, over all causing a bigger backroll... _________________ www.Shadrack.com
