I have a pentium four processor. 80GB hard drive. I got mine built from a guy who works with my dad for 1000$ (canadian) there isn't really any cons. just keep in mind to get any AV software. _________________ This Is My Signature |

Pro: fast, portable, great monitor, Mac's are made for this!, the keyboard is fantastic as is the Lacie drive
Cons: I need to buy more RAM! |

I'm the PC devil..........
Asus P4PE with an Intel 2.66 Mhz P4, 1 gig corsair RAM, 700GB on Western Digital 8mb drives in a ThermalTake Case. Around $1800.
No cons so far. I love the Thermaltake case because I have plenty of room for drives and keeps everything very cool!
If you plan on using After Effects (available on both the mac and pc) then I would go for the fastest processor and the most memory you can afford. |

For those of you with external hard drives. . . can you download videos from a DV camera directly to your external hard drive? I tried this with mine and it worked, but the videos wouldn't play off of my external hard drive. I ended up having to compress the videos on my external hard drive for them to play correctly for me.
Sooner or later I would like to edit some of this video, but I don't think it's good to edit compressed video is it??? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the videos to play correctly on my external hard drive without having to compress them or should I just be using the external hard drive for storage purposes only and not to edit off of? Thanks for any suggestions. |

Josh R-
Sweet setup! I've love to see a pic of the whole thing.
I'm running a 15 " PB and a 20" cinema display, 80 GB HD, 1 GB RAM, wireless and bluetooth built in, isight webcam...
Outside of the box I've got 3 external LaCie d2 HD's - 2x200 GB, 1x 80 GB.
Pulling the video from the cam to the hard drive works fine...no dropped frames and I often edit right off the external HD... _________________ 1989 Supra Comp TS6M, 06 GLI for haulin'.

Dell Precision M60 Mobile Workstation, 1.7 Ghz Pentium M, Gig RAM, 60Gb hard DVD+RW, 15.4, 128 Mb Nvida video card, Dell True Mobile wireless. ($3.8K) Used for developing database applications. Like it so far, great video quality, mobile connectivity decent, and battery life is outstanding. Able to watch an entire DVD movie on the plane and still have life left in it.
Dell 1100, cheesy notebook ($1K) Passed down to the kids to use mostly.
Dell 7500 Notebook,750 Mhz, 512 mb ram, 60Gb disk Running NT, not worth upgrading at this point. Currently used for remote support of client databases so I've gotten my money's worth out this one ($4K new in 2000) (Technology changes fast...)
Dell 8200 Desktop ($2K) 2.4 Ghz, 1Gb RAM, 64Mb video, DVD+RW (couple years old)
2 Sun Blade servers, 2 Gb Ram each, 240 Gb HD capacity each. Solaris OS, $2K each. Work horse machines. One supports a team of developers and client backups server. Applications and Databases up 24/7. Servers have only been down a couple times in the past two years. |
