| Hey - I'm from Chicago IL and i don't plan on staying in IL after I grad. from ISU in 2005.... I was wondering if wakeboarding was big in AZ or NV because I'd love to move out there... my bf is looking for a job in the industry, too. Just wondering how realistic that is... thanks ladies! |

Hi there:
there are 4 major lakes to ride on about an hour from where I live in phoenix. I just got into riding last year so i can't compare, but there seems to be a sizable wakeboarding community here.
welcome

i know im a guy in the ladies lounge but im gunna post anyways. sue me..
Wakeboard is big out here. there are people boarding all the time, and all over. if you move to phoenix, like Mary Reis said there are roughly 4 lakes that are relatively close. and im gunna break it on down for ya...
north of town:
Lake Pleasant(the biggest, approx 15mi N of phx), this is the party lake more or less. you can get good water in the early early mornings, and then again in late after noon/dusk. mid-day if you like to party, just go out to humbugg cove and tie on to the many boats and do so.
Bartlett Lake(approx 30mi NE Phx): Noticably small then pleasant, and more mellow. not very crowded. lost of fisherman. The "flats" is where the party crew/jet skiiers/etc hang out. so go to the south side by the damn, and you'll see good water.
East of town:
Canyon lake(approx 16 miles NE of phx): I havent been here since i was 9. I have no review of this lake. hopefully some of the other phoenix people can help you out.
Apache Lake (approx 45 miles east of phx): This is a pretty secluded lake in the middle of a canyon. its a little far drive, and the road to get into the lake(last i remember) is sketchy. sketchy as in, on a cliff with a drop off on one side. however its a nice lake, and you can get some great water there.
I dont know much about nevada other than lake mead, and the colorado river.
hope this helps, and hopefully others will chime in and give there .02 as well. |
