$gas used/number of people=$ you should charge

unless you want to get stingy and amortize in your maintenance costs

You walk a fine line when you start CHARGING people. If they voluntarily chip in it is ok. When there is a charge you are Chartering a boat and most likely your insurance is not ok with that.

Just take them with you when you fill up at the end of the day. A good friend will know what to do. Others will not be invited back on the boat.

Not to mention the fact that charters require licensed captians and all kinds of other things... Point being should anything bad happen and the lawyers get a hold of the fact you are charging to ride, you will be found liable and guilty of several violations.

It's an unspoken law. No Pay, no play. If they ask why they don't get invited, simply inform them that they are cheap bastards and can kiss your ass. Works like a charm. Bitches

Check this out Ken put it well about how to charge! It's in the middle of the page before you "Find -a- Pull" boat economics. 101

What I normally give.

Say we go out for a full day on my main friends boat.

I'll drop $10ish because I also use my resources to benifit the trip, truck for towing, we help with matenance on the boat, tow it to the shop when it needs it, show up and prep the boat with out the owner there, Buy fat sack for it and other needed items through out the cousre of the season. This is my regular ride and its kind of an average of $10 a trip because I'll drop money on him in lump sums. 2 years ago these roles were reversed.

If I go out with some of the other people I know with a boat that I ride with a few times a season. I'll ask them What I owe and round up because I want my invite to remain intact. These people will also go out of there way to get me on the boat When I can't be there promptly at the set up time.

If I ride with some one for the first time, I'll always drop at least $20 in them as well as take shorter sets So they will want me to return. I'll also show up with drinks that everyone likes.

1 or 2 others who come out once in a blue moon will drop between 10 - 20 denpending on how cheap they are. the people who give $20 want their invite to stay intact and always be invited out even though they never help out with the other stuff.
