|
|
| OK, so I am at the PWT in Reno last weekend, and noticed that the swim deck on the tow boat (Xstar) is out of the water. I only see my swim deck when my boat is on the trailer. Why don't they weight these boats? I know they could have used a bigger wake.... alot of times it looked like they were going for 7's and only had enough pop for 5's. |

When i put weight in the 04 X-Star, my platform sticks out too. I fill the factory ballast, 1100lbs., then the sacs, 1400lbs. Total of 2500lbs. + all the people. That deck is a little higher than most of the x-series boats from the water line. It is set on an angle too. I am going to place more weight in it this weekend. adding another 500lbs. I will let you know if i sink that platform.
The wake is totally different. It is very long. You have to make yourself wait or you will leave earily every time. Once you get use to it and have it weighted right, its on!!
BTW, I had 2500lbs plus 10 people and the platform was at the waters edge but not in the water. Not like a SAN or a X-2. |

churchy, The new boat designs are now incorporating ballast weight when placing the platform. I was confused too when I saw a dealer pic of a boat with the platform out. I think most manufacturers if not all are now doing this. _________________

thats interesting. I like having my deck right below the waterline. It makes it easier for people to get on the boat from the water.
IMO the new X-Stars aren't designed too well. At the PWT in Dallas we saw it take a wave over the bow. Since there are no other boats out there it had to be it's own. The nose sits too low in the water. |

Probably driver error, most waves over the bow are due to this. Did he power turn? _________________

That would be driver error. It can be done, but it can be done in all boats. I have dipped the bow once, but it was to see the honeys jump up without their tops tied |

we talked about this last year (on these forums) when I was in Portland for the PWT. I think the driver is probable one of the best out theirs. Yes the bow does sit really low compared to others. And it dipps alot and takes on water. _________________

I have done it once out of 8 trips/45 hours. Not saying the guy can't drive, you just have to watch what you are doing. |

oh and I dipped my buddy's boat only once....it was in the middle of traffic, rushing to pick up a fallen rider (the boat owner) so he was holding on the rope, people were standing up, A loaded....and I mean loaded down Malibu 21' LSV went right by us one direction, another loaded V-drive went by, saw the HUGE...I mean HUGE waves coming, I couldnt punch it cause it would have thrown the people off the boat ripped the riders hands off, I braced for impact, tried to inch my way over it, but the wave was so big, went over the front and over the windshield....biggest dam wake I have ever seen. It was like a spine from two boats....(at least we had a bigger wake after that ) _________________
