Hey ScubaSteve8889,
Alotta folks who come from the skate and snowboarding world initially set their bindings up with the front foot facing towards the front of the board at maybe a 45 degree angle and the rear foot facing across the board - very similar to your stance when riding a skateboard. This has it's pros and cons as it can feel comfortable at first which is important when learning the process of getting up...however, once you've mastered the getting up bit and riding behind the boat a bit, you'll want to progress....I think you'll find alotta folks here recommending learning to ride switch very early - this will help you in your later tricks....BUT to ride switch effectively, your stance should be almost identical, in other words, both feet should be "ducked out" a bit at the same (or nearly the same) angle.... Riding switch can feel quite awkward at first but keep at it.
Hope this helps

i have my feet all the way out and ducked like wesgardner said. its just the most natural position for my feet. thats the same way i ride my snowboard. but stance is really all preference; ride a little bit and see what you like best. _________________

| i ride with my feet ducked as well. just like wes gardner said, i started riding with my front foot angled and my rear foot straight across the board. i thought this was good at first, but once i was starting to ride switch and laerangin to stuff it became extremely uncomfortable. switching to duck made it alot more comfortable AFTER i learned. wes is right though, the idea of starting with the rear foot straight and the front foot angled could be a good one for you. |
