Hey guys, I've got a '00 Xstar, and we already have the factory, 500 lb ballast in the middle compartment, that's hooked up to the button, but I don't have any ballast on either side of the engine compartments. I'm thinking of stepping up and doing that, but getting the dealer to automate it into a switch is gonna cost some serious big bucks, so I was thinking of going the cheaper route and just getting ballast and filling it up manually. Only concern is, is this messy? Does it get the inside of the boat wet, or is it possible to get keep it clean. Again, it would probably go 350 lb, on each side of the engine. I just don't want huge mildew stains all over the carpet in the back. I know its covered, which won't let much air in, and regardless noone will see it, I just want it kept clean in the back, mainly for resale value and to keep my heart at rest. Those of you, who do fill up your ballast manually, how do you guys like it, and is it worth it? Thanks!!

Jmass03, If you can get the pump/bags at a reasonable price automating it the only way to go. It saves a lot of time especially if you have multiple bags. Check this link: http://forums.wakeboarder.com/viewtopic.php?t=25297

If you only fill the sacks to about 3/4, you can definitely change the hoses without any water getting out. If you fill them all the way, however, there's no way unless you rig up something that would remain attached to the sacks.

Yeah I wish I could automate it myself, but I don't have any technical experience. I wouldn't know the first thing to do. As far as filling them 3/4, why would I need to change the hoses?? I was planning on getting two 350 lb launch pad sacks. I'm not sure how they work. If any of you could explain so that I understand what salmon taco's means. Thanks guys!
