I am buying a 2002 Calabria Pro-V. In the process of buying it, my mechanic noticed that the fittings around the engine and V-Drive were galvanized fittings. These fittings were placed by the factory. The dealer confirmed that. The previous owner did not change them out at any point.

I do believe that galvanized fittings on a boat are not US Coast Guard approved. Not that I am planning on taking my boat into saltwater, but if I did my mechanic told me that these fittings within one day would disintegrate and I would need a whole new engine.

It wasn't a big deal, the dealer changed my fittings to bronze (which my mechanic says is US Coast Guard Approved) and I am still in the process of buying this boat.

Anyone know why Calabria would place galvanized fittings on their boats? Does anyone else have a 2002 Pro-V, that could see what fittings are on their boat?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

I believe the fittings you are talking about are supplied by Mercruiser they are the raw water inlet and exit on the v-drive. I dont know about the whole Coast Guard thing but if the boat is Coast Guard approved then I would assume that all of the parts would have to be. The Parts are the same on my boat 04 and were the same on my 02 never had a problem with them at all it sounds more like your mechanic needed something to do.

Hmm, I believe your supposed to put sacraficial (sp?) annodes on boats that are going to be run in salt water.. or you'll electroplate the ocean floor with your underwater gear and engine components.

I dont know anything about the Galvanized materials meeting CG approval, I also have a Pro V, should be interesting to see what turns up.
