Me and my brother took out our Sport Nautique yesterday and whenever someone would say HIT IT we would give it full throttle and it was barely able to pull up the riders. Usually we only have to give it like half throttle and that is plenty to pull up riders. Also, whenever we gave is gas out of the whole, black smoke would come out the back. The smoke would only come out for a second and then it would clear up.

I hope I explained that so you guys could understand. Has anyone had this problem or know why this might have happened? I'm afraid to take it out again because I don't want to do any damage. Could it just be bad gas or something like that? Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like its not getting the air it needs basicly the engine is at low rpms when you gun it it gets a ton of gas before it gets the air and nearly stalls itself.

I see from your profile that its an older Sport Nautique. Do you run in shallow water very often - or perhaps churn up a lot of debris near where you park the boat? Please take a look at the water intake filter that sits behind the engine, unscrew it and see how it looks. There may be some debris in there that could cause some of the behaviour you speak of.

Could be fuel filter too. Don't run that boat until it's fixed.

A quick cheap fix to these types of problems might be found in a bottle of fuel treatment. It removes water from the fuel and, on fuel injected motors, cleans them. Water is the main contributer of many problems in boats, and it can enter the fuel thru high humidity, condensing on the inside of a near empty fuel tank. Rather than waste a lot of time and money, start with the easiest fix. The other items mentioned should be visited if the problem persisits; fuel filter, plugs, float or other carb issues.

Good luck, hope this helps.

Yeah, I think I'll take it to the shop and have them run through it. The only problem with that is it'll take like 2 weeks. Our Marine takes forever. We are going to Lake Mead the 17-20 so I hope they can be done with it by then.
