| How difficult is it to repack your prop shaft? Can anyone step me through the process? |

| It's not hard at all. I would suggest getting a packing removal tool. (I've seen it as Marine west for about $14) It's a long skinny corkscrew thing w/ a T handle. You also need some big wrenches. If you do a search on Google you can find several step by step sites w/all the details. |

Hey Project, its easy to do. I didn't even buy the tools, if you know anyone at a dealer, they let me bring my boat, take the removal tool into the parking lot and do it. It takes five min. tops.
Use the wrenches to loosen the fitting around the drive shaft. The Old Packing should be tucked deep inside it. Keep in mind, there might not be much old packing if it burned up. Take thew old out, wrap the new around in the fitting and cut it to length, then push it down inside and screw the fitting back on.
you want it to drip a little water, if its totally dry it will burn up quickly. Hope that helps.
