just from reading other posts and comparing the boat to others...
I think it is an excellant boat. The v-drive was kind've new when it was made, but have heard of only one problem with it.
If I was getting an "older" boat, but wanted something nicer than a 2001 I would get an excel. _________________ "I don't understand...what is this NO WAKE zone you speak of?...and what does it mean?" |

| One of my peeps has an Excel. I've never ridden behind it but it appears to put out a nice wake. |

I bought my 93 Excel last June and have had no problems....other than minor things like breakers going out.....had a tower put on it too.
Has a nice wake, but is steeper and peakier than other boats I have ridden behind (M-Craft direct drive, Malibu Wakesetter, etc).
I have been playing with fat sacs to increase the wake size and could use some suggestions. I have two phat buddies and one Launchpad (540lbs). When I put the two phat buddies on each side of the Vdrive, and the Launchpad in front of the rear bench seat....the boat porpoises and the wake gets a bit mushy......do I need to add 1-200lbs of weight up front to offset all the weight in the rear.
The one thing I don't like is because of the design (no walk through) I can't lay the Launchpad long ways to distribute the weight more towards the front. |

Jake,
I'm looking at an Excel. You say the wake is steeper and peakier as if its a bad thing. Is is too much wake or does it get mushy. Also, can you pull at 18-19 mph. The boat I have now, an i/O, you have to get to 23 to plane out and it's tough to get too radical at that speed. Also, have you been pulled by other boats and how does the wake compare.
Thanks |

| Jake - Yeah..put the big sack in the front. That will solve 2 of your problems. It will make the wake less steep and should solve your porpoising problem. I've see guys just put the sack across the seats up there in other open bows. I'm not sure exactly how it's laid out..but you could maybe throw a cooler under it in the walkway for more support if you think it will need it. There are also companies making triangle shaped bags or custom sized bags that you could get to fill your walk through completely up. You could throw another cushion on top to make it a playpen style bow. Also check out wakeworld.com and planetnautique.com as there are some guys that frequent those sites w/ Excels...... |
