I put a new prop on because the old one had suffered enough dings. I put the same size and pitch back on, but now have a high pitch "singing" sound at idle speed. Any ideas on the problem? |

what kind of prop did you replace the old one with?
Is the new one stainless? They have a tendancy to "sing".
Also, going from the OJ's to the Acme's on my VLX had an affect on the sound of the boat too.

Everything was to be the same. I just call the dealer and he has one ready. This is at least once a year thing, I trade my old for a refurbished, but this one was a new prop as far as I can tell. No it's not stainless. It's a Acme Nibral. |

my acme's all sing when i come off the throttle but not at idle. I actually don;t mind it compared to the stock props the acme is 100x better. when i hear the sing it makes me grin cause i know it's better. but i'm kinda funny like that. unless it really bothers you, i wouldn't be worried about it. _________________ your not getting air till your arms are flapin' like a chicken |

Is it the prop or the tranny? Does it happen in neutral or reverse? _________________ Jeff |

MrBlean,
Only at idle speed. Acme is the stock prop brand. I have probably put three props on it since I got the boat in 02. One new (the first one I replaced) and the rest refurbished except this one which appears to be new and is the first one to "sing". |

The symptoms indicate some form of reasonance at idle speed. However, is it possible that it does it all the time but you are unable to hear above the engine/wind noise?
Wait until you get your first ding and it will probably go away as the resonant frequency of the prop will change _________________ Jeff |
