As a first time boat buyer I am liking at a Mastercraft Maristar 21'. It looks like it's in great condition and all Mx has been done so I am told. I am concerned with the 440 hrs on the engine.

Should I be concerned with the high time?
What should I be looking for in terms of worn parts?

Can anyone give me some advise as what to look for or what to stay away from.

Thanks
Derek

skybum, you can get a mobile mechanic to check the engine out for you. All things being said 440 hours is not that much. Take a good look at the gelcoat and look for small cracks that would indicate impact or defects.

Get out on the boat and see how it runs and handles.

440 hrs is pretty low.

Thats the equiv of 18,000 miles on a car.

If you have a mechanic check it out, take the hr reading from the oil pressure record on the engines computer,, not the ignition hrs.

It could be much less, or much more.

Sometimes people turn the key the wrong way to play the radio,, and they run up hrs rather than if the key was on accessory.

Then on the other hand,, if the hrs have been tampered with,, it be the ignition hrs,,not the oil pump running hrs.
