my parents dont want anything permanent on our boat so im thinking of making a pylon and i have a question about the stabalizing straps...would it work to just have 2 ratcheting straps to the back pulling aginst a nylon strap to the front?...or should i use 3 ratcheting straps (1 to the front, 2 to the back)?
if it helps im using http://www.bierbower.net/diytower/POLEPLANS.pdf as a guide
Thanks for the help

Make all 3 ratcheting so you can tighten them up from either direction.
That might work for a standalone pylon with just a baseplate in the floor but I would be pretty sketched out.
You need a solid tripod system with two 45 degree angle metal stabilizer poles in the back (coming off the main pylong) and 1 ratchet cord to the front.
I would recommend you buy one of these from a 3rd party vendor rather than "rigging" one up.
