I have a question for those that have a mirror that mounts to your tower. Or anyone who can help for that matter. When mounting the mirror, should I line the clamp that attatches to the tower with anything? Like rubber, or cloth or plain old masking tape? The mount is unlined billet aluminum and I dont know if aluminum against aluminum is going to scratch the tower and/or tighten down properly. The mirror and mounting arm is from Samson. Any info would help greatly. Thanks!

Wakeupdude:
Air Boom also sells a tower mount mirror and they are a lot less then the Samson model. I think I was quoted something in the area of $160 for one. I am going to get one once the summer gets into swing.
Check airboom.com for more info

| I like the new one from http://www.phatbudde.com/. This is one great looking billet mirror mount, and way cheaper than the Samson mirror.

Samsons extra expense is most likely a result of the mirror that they use on the mount.
Samsons mirror allows full view of the rider/skier on both sides of the boat. Conventional mirrors mounted on a tower will not.

That's a standard CIPRA Extreme screen mount mirror with an arm attached
I have one. The standard mirror is about 110 dllrs from Barts Watersports.
http://www.bartswatersports.com/catalog.asp?P=5098
No doubt Samson buy the mirrors in bulk and add the cost of their arm, which for another 165 dllrs is kinda expensive. But it looks like it's machined from solid so no wonder!

I talked to Air Boom yesterday and they sell their mount plus mirror for $171. I was able to find the same setup at a local dealer for $160. They also sell just the mount by itself for $130. That is a pretty good deal and I am pretty sure I will get their setup later this summer because of the good pricing and quality setup and design.

Hey no doubt those all are nice mirrors. However, After looking at the Samson product....all I can say is wow! The thing is really solid and really heavy. Plus the mirror is HUGE! I have a standard CIPA mirror, and I thought that thing was big. The one that comes from Samson is bigger and has three adjustable lenses. Kinda nice to watch the border when they swing wide. Plus, I always have liked when the mount is a big, thick ball style rather than that skimpy two peice clamp looking one. The arm itself is shiney, not machine finished and the thing just looks awesome. Just my opinion. By the way, I paid $235.00 for mine. They are running a special this month for $25.00 off the regular price of $275.00. Then Scott gave me a discount I think becuase I bought a tower as well. If anyone wants clost up pics of one mounted, I would be happy to post some.

Dan - In case you didn't spot the previous posts, the Samson mirror glass and housing is a "standard" CIPA Extreme. All Samson have done is added the arm.

What I meant by "Standard" CIPA mirror, is, my old mirror is the basic, single lense flat one that mounts to the windshield frame. That thing is HUGE, or so I thought until I got the samson one. Another point I would like to make is Samson's arm "appears" to be more adjustable than the others. Especially the Air Boom one. My windshield is a bit further away from the tower so it was nice to have the arm adjust in three different places. See the pic.

Dan - I agree is well designed with lots of adjustment. My only concern would be that the more joints there are the more there is to work loose and potentially slip out of alignment. But if it's designed correctly that shouldn't be a problem.
You can see where the cost comes from.

I was told the only joint that could slip is at the pivot point when long distance trailering. Since then I have pulled 1,400 miles and its still in the same spot.
On the water, I can see everything--which is nice on those early morning runs when their are two of us. Their are also no rattles, shakes, or vibrations.
The best mirror, and one of the best setups I have ever had--no I do not work for Samson or CIPRA. Just like things that work well.

Ok, first day on the water with my new tower and mirror. The problem is this. I put on one layer of tape and the mirror seemed to clamp down pretty well......UNTIL, it got up to 102* today on the lake and the mount started slipping. I think the tape acutally started to melt and lose it's "sticky-ness" Any other idea's? What about one sided grip tape? Or maybe something made of rubber?

| yeah, we are going to leave the stock one on, and get another to put at a higher on the tower. the stock one is on there for good because there are mad indents where it mounts to the wind shields frame. we will angle that one downward, and the other out for when the boat is planing.

The tower protector rubber should have come with the mirror from Sampson. Call them, I'm sure they would send you some. If not go to any boat dealer and talk to the guys in the shop. I'm sure they can tear off a few strips for you

you have to keep in mind, alluminum shrinks slightly at high temps, and it may have just been enough to allow your mirrow to slip

The boat is back in the shop, exhaust manifold leak (ouch) So I did not have time to fix the mount. I am going to call Scott and Samson tomorrow and ask his recommendations though. I am sure they have a soloution. You are gonna LOVE the mirror by the way.....really awesome.

Dan -
Cool. I am out of town until Wednesday of next week, so the mirror should be there when I get back home. Plan to install it on Thursday am and hit the water.
I will shoot a mail to Scott as well!

| You guys will love the Samson Mirror! Its so nice to finally have a mirror that does not tear up the windshield, allows you to see the rider completely and looks good. Form and function, they did a very nice job!

I am having a problem with the actual mount slipping and slowly lowering toward my windshield.

My CC dealer has roles of rubber tape (not electrical tape) that they used on the tower mirror and the racks.
