Last time I was out, my PerfectPass cable pulled out (where it connects to the throttle rod). Has anyone experienced this? It's not that big of an issue, if I can just figure out how to fix it. There has to be a way to clamp or weld something onto the end of the cable to keep the brass hex nut from slipping off it again... _________________ "So tell me, what's the price to pay for glory?" |

no, but my paddlewheel cable came out of the control box... a quick email too PP and Aaron told me exactly where to find the connection. Took me 5 mins to fix.
...and when I say it was a quick email, they responded in like 10-15 mins. Way to stay on top of it! _________________ I eat Vegans. Medium-Rare.

Take your cable to a motorcycle shop. They use the same brass fitting
on carb throttle cables for motorcycles. They also will tell you how to
properly weld, braze or whatever method they use to secure it to the cable.
Make sure the long nut is on the cable before they weld the brass piece.
I had mine come off a couple of times until my welding buddy zapped it
with a torch.
The piece should cost about 75 cents. Get a couple of them. You might
need them.
Good Luck |

Thanks for the help. I emailed PerfectPass and they have a replacement cable on the way - under warranty. Should be here in time to ride this weekend. Great customer service! _________________ "So tell me, what's the price to pay for glory?" |

| I have had the exact same problem as extremeh2o - twice. Both times it happened within 30 minutes after we got out on the river and ruined a day of riding. My local Malibu dealer has just resoldered it both times. The first time maybe not so well, but the second time they did it seems to be holding. The dealer said they have seen this a few times and it is caused by a poor solder joint that fails/breaks when the heat from the engine warms the solder joint. |

So you can fry eggs on your engine cover eh? What a load of bollox from the dealer. Lead melts at 270 deg C and solders at somewhere between 200 and 270 deg C. So for the engine temperature to be affecting the joint your engine would be fried.
Is just a poor joint in the first place - usually through contamination (grease or dirt on the cable or nipple). Is still there when the joint re-made so other than adding more solder and making the joint bigger, is still not a perfect joint. Hence second time failings. _________________ Jeff |
