Hi all,
I tried wakeboarding a couple of years ago but i never got into it. I have been slolam skiing now for 2 years and i decided to give wakebaording another try. I consider myself to be at the intermediate level of wakeboarding. I have a hyperlite 140 with 2003 belmont bindings on it. I was just in our local store and the guy helping me was telling me that the rope is the next most important thing i need to purchase followed by a good handle. He showed me a rope and handle package that costed around $160--is the rope and handle that important? or can i get by with something cheaper. Let me know all your thoughts on this subject.
thanks a ton!

mjewett, A rope and handle are semi important. I mean, you don't want a heavy handle (but you also want a durable one). You want a handle with a nice grip (unless you plan on using gloves). The handle I use is an Accurate Parks Sgnature (which was $120) and the rope i use was just some standard boating rope (i think).

It just matters on what you're willing to spend.

The rope is also important. You want to have a zero-stretch rope. It is important. You can probably get a better deal than that if you look around.

I find a rope more important then a good handle. And your sales man is right, it's the next important thing. For wakeboarding you really want a non-stretch rope (spectra), instead of the normal stretch ones from waterskiing. I never thought I would feel the difference between the 2 ropes, but now I have the spectra I never use anything else.

You pretty much have to get a non-stretch rope for wakeboarding. If you're doing any real tricks, which you said you are, a normal stretch rope will really mess you up.

For the handle, get what you want. IMO, as long as the grip's comfortable on your hands, it doesn't matter what you get. Just keep in mind, the wider a handle is, the easier it'll make handle passes.

just get a comfortable 15" handle and a low stretch line. there is no reason to spend $160 unless you are going to get serious about wakeboarding.
