dude, this sucks. I'm a newbie again...
Anyways, does anyone out there own a waterproof video camera housing? How much do they cost? Is there any way I could make one myself? _________________ The consciousness of self is the greatest hindrance to the proper execution of all physical action.

Real waterproof housings meant for scuba diving run over a grand, I have an Amphibico housing for my PD-150 with almost total control of the camcorder with electronic and mechanical controls. It set me back more than 3 grand......
Check out bhphoto.com for Ewa-Marine water proof bags, which would be the best value for just shooting wakeboarding and not doing anything too crazy. For something slightly more heavy duty, check out topdawgvideo.com, I used to have one for a Sony TRV-120 (standard digital 8 size) and it worked real well and I was able to use a wide angle lens inside the housing. Its less than a grand, but more expensive than the bags. Good Luck |

Some guy on wakeworld made his. It looks really good and I might try something similar. I think there is already a thread somewhere on here about it. Just do a search it might be under the Boat threads. _________________ If I agreed with you we would both be wrong. |

Try www.wakeworld.com (Low Income Housing) they have a full illustrated article on the same one done by the dude who made it. He says it was only 60$ to build. I'm thinking of trying, but it looks pretty tedious to make. _________________ I have gone to great lengths to expand my threshold for pain. |

| If you don't mind shelling out more bucks, check out www.waterhousings.com. They make them for most wakeboard photographers and wakeboard video companies.[/url] |

i'm kinda after the same thing, except i don't need the housing to be waterproof, just water resistant in case of some splish splash activity. all i need is some sort of soft plastic cover. i've called a few camera stores and they said they didn't have any. surely there would be a big market for this kind of thing - i mean, what if you want to film when its raining or snowing or your in the shower, but don't actually want to go scuba diving?
if there is such a product out there, put me down for one. |

The only quality loss is when it get water droplets on the glass i try my best not to let it happen but theres always one or two but no big deal. They use optical glass so theres no real quality loss in the fil. _________________ www.NORTHSHOREBOARDSHOP.com

| I have run accross this question many times, and if only I could remember where I bought mine. It was some website but it was only 100 dollars and works awsome. it was basically a pvc tube Im guessing like 10" with a cap at one end that was cut open and plexiglass was inserted and bolted in place. Then it had two handle bolted on and the rear had a rubber cap in place that was screwed in place with one of those metal bands that tighten as you screw it. The interior just used some of that foam stuff you find in like video camera casings. That held it in place. Then you just seal all the joints and around the bolts and plexiglass. You just use the reomote to turn it on and off. Its durable as hell, I use it on the intertube to tape my friends riding. The place I bought it from said it was good to 60 feet down and it floats as well. If I could only remeber the site. |

ok, now I'm running into problems. I went down to Home Depot and Lowes today, and neither of them sell big enough pvc pipe for my camera to fit inside of. (I was gonna make one out of PVC and Plexiglass similar to the one on wakeworld. Now I'm thinking of finding a transparent bucket or drum or sumething, that I could put the camera in. Has anyone tried this or something similar??? _________________ The consciousness of self is the greatest hindrance to the proper execution of all physical action.

| If you have a hard time finding large enough pvc at the hardware store, try an irrigation installer or a plumbing supplier. The will have scraps that they will probably give you and they will be big enough. Thats where I got mine. |

colorider, did you make a camera housing?
I took a look at the one on wakeworld, but I don't want to spend that much time making one. I guess I'm pretty lazy Anyways...

the problem i see with using a hard casing for the camera is there is NO way to adjust any manual settings on the camera on the fly. this means you adjust them once then put the camera in the case then hope for the best. from what i have seen of the hard cases you can only control the camera with a remote.
i personally am looking into getting a bag because it is made specifically for cameras to be used in and around water. i trust something like this more than something that is home made. im sure that craftsmanship may or may not be an issue but i feel more comfortable with having a bag cover the camera because i can still access all of the controls that are on the sides of the camera as well as knowing that the cases are made for professional applications. if the bag is defective im sure that EWA has a warranty that will replace my camera. _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com

I dunno, I don't have enough money for a bag. I guess all I would need is to make a housing that I could open one end up, start recording on the camera, slide it in, and start rollin...
