Tyler T, how about "Chales"
Seriously - when UNLV lost to Utah in the MWC championship game I lost all interest! _________________

NAW, yeah, no kidding, what's up with that?! Plus UNR (Reno) made it in too, and so did a few others I have never heard of... _________________

Valpo makes the tourney pretty consistantly. They even made it the sweet 16 a few years ago!
They're up against #2 seed Gonzaga in the first round, though. _________________ www.MidwestMilitia.net |

NAW, matchup of Cinderellas, past and present!
UConn is my pick to win it all...not exactly going out on a limb there as long as Okefor stays healthy.
Oklahoma State is my darkhorse. They are big, athletic and play serious defense.
My team, Texas, isn't going anywhere. I will be pretty damn pumped if they beat Princeton (who took us to overtime last year in Austin) and North Carolina to make the Sweet 16. |

| Dpierce37, he has had back spasms all year long. Needs time and therapy - not exactly what is in store for him over the next month. |

The only thing today's game decides is who gets blown out by Kentucky. _________________

Right on M3Orion...
Also, look out for Texas Tech. I got them in the elite 8 over Wake Forest (I like the coach). North Carolina too. They didn't win their tournament, but they're playing hot. And Stanford, even though they're 29-1, I got them beat in the second round by them cats down at Southern. I'm also tired of the Illini hype (probably because I live in IL) but they dont have any good big men. They are ranked # 5 and everybody knows that the most upsets in tourney history is the 12 over 5. If not, the Cinnci will knock them out.
Final 8:
Duke (good 'ol white boys)
North Carolina
Maryland
Conneticut
Kentucky
Gonzaga
Texas Tech
Oklahoma St

Aside from wanting to blast you for your blatant racism, I think you should be blasted for your stupidity. Your "good 'ol white boys" are mostly black...Deng, Duhon, Williams, Ewing, Dockery....only 2 of the 7 players in the rotation are white. Moron. |

Elite 8:
Kentucky
Gonzaga
St. Joe's
OK State
Duke
Miss. State
Stanford
UConn
Watch out for Oklahoma...they're on fire and they have the depth to win it all.
I've got Kentucky going all the way, but I really think it's up for grabs this year, anyone could take it. _________________

| I have St. Joe's winning it all, who knows what will happen though. There are always upsets, its unlikely that the top 4 teams will be in the final four. Watch out for Arizona that have a good team, they are young, but if they win their first game they have a good chance of beating Duke. |

Dragonlady8, They deserved it last year. I'm not gonna root for them again this year; they broke my heart last year
Well, seeing is how Fresno State is out of it...I'll go with Stanford. They have a kid from a high school in town playing for them. Go Chris Hernandez |

I agree. Arizona was hot at the beginning of the year (17-0), but they started to fall apart and lost all momentum. If they do well at the beginning of the tournament they have a very real shot at making it past Duke. But they haven't been playing as a team lately, and that is their biggest weakness.

First of all, I didn't even LOOK at the seeds when I made my picks, second of all, here's my reasoning:
Kentucky- No standout superstars or big men, just a group of talented players that are very well rounded. They're good everywhere on the court, not just stellar in one and "pretty good" in others. They play as a team, probably the most unified team on the court right now.
Gonzaga- Blake Stepp, Ronny Turiaf. Two unbelievably talented players that get it done on the offense (and defense, in Turiaf's case). Stepp is an all-American with an amazing touch, and Turiaf is the big man that completely dominates inside. Too many people are counting them out as serious contenders this year, and forget that their only losses are to St. Joes and Stanford (only one loss each).
OK State- An incredible team defensively, but also extremely versatile. They win on offense against offensive teams, they win on defense against defensive teams. They're fast in transition and play with a lot of intensity. The talent is not spread thin on this team.
St. Joe's- I was a little hesitant to pick St. Joes, and I still might change my mind. They were blown out by Xavier, which makes them look VERY vulnerable. However, they beat a very strong Gonzaga, which makes them a serious contender in my book. Strong in the backcourt, which will be their ticket to the Elite 8 if they're on. Not as strong on the offensive side, and their offensive strategy (4 guards) is questionable, but with a record of 27-1, I wouldn't write them off.
Duke- I don't really need to say anything about Duke, they're a strong team, period. Yes, they lost to a strong Maryland, but that's just going to make them want it more. Never count them out.
Miss. St- 25-3 for the season and 8-0 in the SEC. Timmy Bowers, Lawrence Roberts, and Winsome Frazier are a lethal combination. They have a deep bench and a lot of size.
Stanford- Yes, they are professional choke artists. But Stanford has a stronger team this year than any other year recently. They're very strong offensively, with Josh Childress and Matt Lottich leading the point-scoring. Their only weakness is being slow in transition and on the perimeter, which could be their downfall against UConn.
UConn- Okafer, Gordon, and Villanueva leading the show here. They're just an extremely talented team, bar none. Their talent is deep, and they play smart, unselfish basketball. I've got them going all the way to the finals. _________________

Go Zags! I think this just might be the year they crack the final four.
In a couple of pools, small money, just for fun.
Other than the Zags, I'll be rooting for the Pac-10 teams (including....ugh...Washington...I feel dirty) and my friends' alma maters/favorite teams....Maryland, NC State, Richmond, South Carolina, and Texas. I would also love to see E Washington pull the upset over OSU, but its very unlikely. |

i went to the first round in BUFF. and 2nd round and all i have to say is i give alot of credit to the st. joes mascot, i am not exagerating, and it sounds impossible but the st. joes hawk did not stop flapping his wing/wings for one second, if they were in the huddle he would have one wing flapping it was just so amazing and the t. tech vs st joes was good and so was depaul vs dayton double OT!

Is it just me, or is this year's tournament kinda weird? Some strange upsets, Kentucky is currently down by 11 at the half? WTF? I do not want Duke to win another championship, but there may not be any competitive teams left. And god, the Pac-10 SUCKS! Actually, west coast basketball sucks...there's only one team left (Pacific) that is west of the central time zone.
So I guess I'm rooting for Ok State now |
