PAKISTAN: AL QAEDA TARGET SURROUNDED
Osama bin Laden's second in command has been surrounded in Pakistan, President Pervez Musharraf has told CNN.
Troops say they have cornered Ayman al-Zawahri in an operation near the Afghan border.
The operation, involving hundreds of troops and paramilitary rangers, has been carried out in the South Waziristan region.
The identity of the man surrounded has not been confirmed.
But President Musharraf said: "(Judging by) the resistance that is being offered by the people there, we feel that there may be a high value target."
Sky News' Foreign Affairs Editor Tim Marshall said: "Most people believe the number two is actually the brains (behind the al Qaeda network)."
And he added: "If it's true it is an enormous strike. It cannot be underestimated." _________________

The latest reports say that he surrendered to Pakistani officials - but ABC News is saying that he is just surrounded.
No matter as long as they get him and kill a whole pile of Al-Qaeda idiots in the process. _________________

I was watching CNN about this for about a half an hour and they had the pres. of Pakistan on there basically saying that they really have no idea who it is but basically have a "hunch" that it is someone valuable. They have no intelligence on whether this is someone important or just someone that simply doesn't want to give up. _________________

kswiss, mistake #1 - watching CNN
You are right though, but some of the European and Arabic news sources get detailed inside information far before we do. Sky is a British news agency that has a tendency of doing just that... _________________

chavez-y-chavez, well no stuff. But it made me feel responsible watching tv about world news. But they did have a clip of an interview of the pres of pakistan saying that so I would consider that a pretty good secondary source of info. It makes him look that much more honest saying, "we don't know who it is, but we think it's someone important." <-----not an exact quote....
.....all news publications and media are biased and we as citizens of a country half a world away will never see or have access to the primary source of info. _________________

Actually, they are claiming that this guy is more important than Osama--if it is who they think it is. They are saying that Osama is just the pretty faced spokesperson that represents Al Qaeda. The number two man is the brains behind the operation and that's who they think they have cornered. Time will tell I suppose...... _________________ How do you apologize to a friend for something like that? Flowers would not be enough. |

I remember the morning I woke up with a 12 inches of new snow on the ground in a hotel in south shore and hearing Saddam had been captured. Can't wait till the day that I hear Osama has been killed in a raid of some cave. _________________ If I agreed with you we would both be wrong. |

I would rather he is captured alive, he is a valuable resource. Being as that he's the leader of arguably the most successful terrorist organization of modern times, he could offer some very important insight into the mind of a terrorist...then we can kill him. _________________

M3Orion, can we torture him in really cruel ways like forcing him to watch Dr. Phil or even better have Dr. Phil touch Osama's feminine side? _________________ If I agreed with you we would both be wrong. |

I was thinking they could make him cellmates with Charles Manson. Those two would get along quite well. _________________
