i'm all for equal rights and civil unions, but gay ppl wanting to be married is gayer then being gay...

gay marriage does not equal civil unions. don't believe me? ask any gay person who is for gay marriage. they make a huge distinction between the two. anyways, anyone who has been paying attention to what has been going on with this subject should already know this...guess u haven't

It seems like a conflict of interests on your part to be such a proponent of "getting the government out of our lives" (as you so eloquently put it), yet you're for the government restricting the rights of two adults to get married.

marriage by definition is between a man and a women. i explained the reasons for marriage...none which include anything about ppl of the same sex. i am all for civil unions...with all the rights afforded to marriage. it is the proponets of gay marriage who are getting the govt involved...look at ppl in the govt breaking the laws in cali, oregon and ny to name a few.
looks more to be like gay ppl trying to normalize or legitimize homosexuality. i find it amusing how some ppl compare a behavior to something like being black or being a women. its not the same. ur born a women, ur not born having sex.
they want the definition of marriage to be changed so they will feel whatever...it's wrong.
if homosexuals can have all the rights of married heterosexuals, whats the problem? |

If two poofs want to get married its no shizzel to me, I say let them.
"they want the definition of marriage to be changed so they will feel whatever...it's wrong" why is it wrong?
People want to restrict the defintion of marriage to exclude same sex relationships purely to make themselves feel better and gays feel worse - well I think that is wrong.
I like gays, infact I encourage homosexuality, it just leaves more women for the real men.

This argument is one of the lamest attempts at an argument that I have heard in awhile, and one that Sean Hannity uses. It fails to consider that the definitions of words and institutions are created by man, and can be changed by man. So simply pointing to the definition is a poor argument.

Also more poor arguments. Marriage is no longer to "protect women" nor is it to controll women or acquire women any longer. Hell, my wife makes more than me and doesn't need my protection for anything, really. Outdated argument.
We have decided not to have any children until 2006. So, are we therefore not really married until then? What if we can't have kids for some reason? Again, poor argument.
Gays want legal marriage instead of this civil union nonsense because accepting a civil union would mean that they are accepting a type of second-class citicenship, and that would be an admittance that homosexuality is not as valid as heterosexuality, and it is. That is why they will not accept civil unions, so when you say they want to be "legitimized," that is true, but implies that they are not legitimate to start with.

That, for the most part, is not true. Just because someone has 1000 some odd posts does not mean they suddenly know everything there is to know about these forums. Also, I am in no way backing up base. I do not agree with how he goes about posting and starting frivolous topics.

I think there should be rules for gay marriage. Rule # 1 - I think only Hot ladies should be able to be getmarried,that's it one rule and it should be strickly inforced. Something like K-dub's famous "twin pictures" would be alright in my book. You see all theese fat ladies with little stashes on there upper lip and one always look like a dude anyway,so what is the big deal. Marry a man,that's what they really want anyway.

True, but the state (the people) do not have to recognize a marriage as valid. You may be able to go to a third world country and marry your mother, which I find gross, but the state of ______ is not automatically forced to recognize it.

Don't make me laugh. And even if that was true, Gay marriage does not go against those things. Homosexuality is not bad or evil, as it hurts noone. The only reason people have a misconception about it being bad or evil is because someone wrote it in the magic god book a 3 or 4 millenia ago. Come on already.

Dogs aren't people. Homosexuals are. A lifelong commitment between two homosexuals is just as valid as one between to heterosexuals and should be recognized the same way.
I actually don't mind polygamy either except when it is practiced in conjunction with child abuse, religious extremism, etc. Of course, if they made that legal, there would be quite a few tweaks they'd have to do to laws, spousal benefits, and such.

this is another stupid and senseless argument. It assumes that once a law is changed, it will necessarily follow that the law will change again, and that is logically false.
It is also a dumb thing to say, that if we allow gay marriage than people will marry their pets and lampshades and inanimate objects. That's just a dumb argument made by scared people who have run out of logical responses.

Do you really think Rome fell because of homosexuality? Everyone who knows me from this board knows that one of the things I can't stand is when a simpleton who does not know his history attempts to cite faulty history as a basis for his/her illogical and emotional argument.
I don't know much about Algebra, so I don't bring it into an argument. You obviously don't know what caused the fall of Rome, so you should not bring it up in an argument either.
