I was out Apr. 29 last year....looks like Apr. 15 this year. But we are heading to Shearness lake, it is heated by a coal power plant, I'm not sure if that counts.
I ride a bunch at Chestermere, and the lake isn't fully filled until May 1st. So typically that is the start of the season.
WakeTech, is right though, May long is typically the start of the season. _________________ Riders Inc. |

hmmm...well I don't have to worry about the shrinkage I do HATE cold water though. Might have to invest in a dry suit now. Does the spending ever stop... |

Sheerness Lake is near Hannah. It's not very sheltered, so it's hit or miss for flat water. On the up side it is warmer than all the other lakes!
They have a campground there right on the lake....Watch the damn boat launch though. If you have a tournament boat be very very very carefull. The cement blocks in the launch end early, and a tournament boat is fairly long so watch yourself!
http://www.atcopower.com/Our_Facilities/In_North_America/sheerness.htm
I've got a buddy from Sask that doesn't ride with any thermal protection. Just shorts and a vest! He's nuts. I do it in a shorty, but WakeTech is right....extreme shrinkage _________________ Riders Inc. |

| Wabamun (sp) Lake would be pretty warm too bc of the power plant. I just don't know how safe/clean the water is. I use to go there as a kid all the time but haven't been there in years. Probably too far from Calgary though. |

I will be riding at Jackfish on May long, and hopefully every weekend after that.
Wake_Chik I dont know how quickly I would be getting into Wabamun, but I do know people that ride there and they are still alive. |

I got the sask gene too cuz we start riding down here practically as soon as the ice breaks and hell some of my friends just go speedo, but their from redcliff . The drysuits are nice but some of them actually restrict your movement, make sure you try it on and go through some of your normal riding positions before you blow 150 bone. But hey down here we got a chinook and Im thinkin that we might hit the lake as soon as the last week of April _________________ Pain Heals, Chicks dig scars, but Glory... That lasts forever |

| Brad Walde, Yeah, I don't think I will be jumping in there too soon. I would rather get cold...at least that doesn't cause any long term effect. I will be out at Pigeon Lake May long and every weekend. How is Jackfish? |

Jackfish is alright, it gets pretty warm during the summer. It is clean by the standard around here, but i am used to where i ride in BC most of the time and it is much much cleaner, so Jackfish seems dirty to me.
deepbaywakeboarder we found a nice ditch to ride too, we are going to try it this afternoon. |

Hey when you guys ride in the ditch what do you tow with? And do they just drive on the road, we tried a quad in the ditch last year but that plan failed after he go so stuck we had to tow him out with a truck. _________________ Pain Heals, Chicks dig scars, but Glory... That lasts forever |

| Archie_bunker66 We use my car to tow us, and just drive along side the road. It isnt a busy road, so it works out. |

I'm pretty sure it ices up at the far end. I doubt it ices up where the power plant spits out it's hot water. The problem would come because the far end is where the boat launch is. I've heard the camp ground is shut down too, so you can't get to the boat launch. _________________ Riders Inc. |

It's not! It seems like it is just getting further away rather than closer. Really it is just a tease. |

Hit up the gravel roads beside all the fields, no traffic.... tie the rope to the truck |

shitty, well if the warm weather comes soon and the wind stays constant it tends to break up the ice faster. I think may long is unrealistic. _________________ I Love The Smell of Butta In The Morning |

| WakeTech, you think that is too late or too early? Maybe at another lake we can launch earlier. We are not even putting the dock in until May long. |

May long has usually been the time that most people get in the water, give or take a couple weeks on either side. But if you have a drysuit you can go as soon as the ice is gone, that's why were looking at going to sheerness _________________ I Love The Smell of Butta In The Morning |
