I am considering purchasing a 1999 Xstar in good shape for 22k and want to hear some opinions. Will I be disappointed without the automatic ballast system. Do you need sacs to have a decent wake? How much weight will be required for a decent wake. What is the hull like. Let me know what you think Xstar owners.

Great boat as long as it looks like it has been well maintained. Really check out the hull and the engine and make sure everything looks up to par. Automatic ballast is a bonus, but you can still rig up a ballast system with fat sacs and a bilge pump. Definitely plan on weighting your boat for a good rampy wake. I would do at least 500# on each side of the engine, and maybe another 500# across the bow/walkthrough. Lead weights or other stationery weights are good if you can handle leaving them on board. They store away easy in the compartments.

It is important to weight both the stern and the bow of the boat, you usually hear 70/30 stern/bow weight ratio. Weighting the stern will help sink the boat in deeper to displace more water, and weighting the bow will help level the V-hull out to give you a better formed wake and a good transition.

I actually bought that exact model with a friend last October. Boat was it good shape, hull and everything was nice. Some color fade on the stitching on the back bench, but that wasn't really a big deal. We got the boat because a) Great deal at $20.5K, b) Nothing is different hull-wise between that boat and 2004 X-2, c) Mastercraft quality and resale, and d) It was a project boat which is what my buddy and I wanted. Ours didn't have a tower, so we got to do that ourselves (Wakeair tower, looks sharp). Stereo, ballast, we're doing all ourselves. I figure we'll be into it for about $27K when we're done, and there is NO WAY you would be able to get a MC X-Star with 150hrs. and the setup we're putting on it for that price. We looked around and only thing we saw close for that was around $32K.

I would say that is a great price but it depends on the hours and condition. I love my 99. I like that it doesn't have the wrap around seating and it has everything the new one does.

We run a 500# sack on each side of the engine and a 700# up thru the bow walk thru. If there is 3 people or less we add another 500# in front of the backseat.

igrunow - I have a 2000 X-Star, and the wake is surprisingly decent without any ballast and with a few people in the boat. Of course it is much better weighted. If you cannot add a ballast system right away because of funds or whatever, you will still be pretty happy with the wake. I'm sure you'll have no problem getting people to go out with you to weight it down.

Where was that boat located Jeff? $22,000 for a 1999 Xstar is a seriously good price.

Also, someone above mentioned that there's no wrap around seating in the 1999? So is there just a rear bench and then the driver and observer seat? Anyone have a pic of this?

It was located in the Pan Handle of Florida. It was decked out with a nice stereo and all. Low Hours. But I missed it. There will be another one.

Whats the price of the Mobius. Where's it located.

Can you tell me the name of the dealer or shop it was at? Do they have a website?

Thanks.

For what it's worth, I have a '00 X-Star for sale in the classifieds section of this site.
