Lots of talk about plush interiors ..
Seems to me the Tige', BU, MC, CC, Supra .. all five have excellent interiors .. some have dual density foam and others have triple density foam and some difference in stitching .. anyone on here in the upholstery business or similar business that can shed some light on which of these might be better and why ? which might be more likely to tear more or split ? thanks ..

| Malibu and Tige use the thinnest vinyl out of all of the boat companies. Malibu I know for sure uses a pre-stretched 8 mil vinyl. That is WAY too thin. They will tell you that it is the same ounces as the competitors but they count backing foam in that. Others don't. Tige also uses a pre-stretched vinyl with a mil of 12 I think. Mastercraft, Supra and Moomba all use a 18 mil vinyl, the best in the business. I know all Supras are french seamed and Moombas are double seamed. MC is probably french seamed also. I'm not sure on what Correct Craft uses, I would think 18 mil like MC and Skiers Choice.

| SKier's Choice, MC, and CC all use the same 18 mil vinyl...all comes from the same factory as I understand from a Skier's Choice rep

It's nice to have a decent looking interior but at the end of the day, regardless of the quality of the materials used, the more seams and stitching there is the more there is to go wrong.

MB Sports uses 52 oz Prefixx Nautolex vinyl and 40oz heavy duty marine carpeting in all of their boats. The interiors come with a five year warranty and they are the plushest, richest feeling interior I have ever felt in a boat. I owned a Tige before my B-52, and it was a good boat, but the interior was thin feeling and I had to replace it at five years old

bigasswake, neons have nothing to do with an interior's "plushness"

| Ounces have little to do with the durability of the vinyl. It is all about the mils. Oh, and by the way, the lower the mil, the better it is going to feel to the touch, but will it last you since it is thinner?

this winter i changed my upholstery for the 2th time.
the first time i used the prefix nautolex and it lasted 3 seasons.or 1600 engine hours.this time i used the prefix boltaflex the best matirial availeble in europe(to my knowledge) and they changed the original foam to a very hard type of foam...i don,t know the name.the shop said, the harder foam is more user friendly on the seams and stitches
i just recieved the first parts back from the shop...and i can tell you it is a BIG difference.
i wonder how long it will last this time.
it will be finished by the end of the next week...i,ll post some pics of the final result.

I guessing but probably because it deforms less so the stitching gets less stretched and stressed.

hyperryd, where is the leg room for the driver on that thing?
Riverside, I think 1600 hours on an interior is pretty darn good. I have 1050 on mine. I just brought the passenger seat in to be redone, and some of the other cushions will need repair in the next several months. I took poor care of them and used products with bleach to clean them and added no protectant.
IMO, there is only so much you can do to maintain the seats. UV rays will eventually wear out the stitching. Anything over 1000-1200 hours is probably a bonus from what I can tell.

That's funny, I didn't see him mention anything about neon lights...you know, there WAS upholstery in that picture too.

Partyb,
this is my 3th time (and proberbly last time)
it was about 700 on the original vinyl and aprox 900 hours on the 2th upholstery.
we had a very dry summer last year with alot of sun hours...i think i only covered the boat 6 times...the rest of the season it was uncovered from april till the end of september.i leave my boats in the water from march till 15 of october and they are used every day by 10 -20 people...so i,m not complaining.
i think it,s better to keep it open instead of covering it up and lock the moist inside.
anyway...nautolex is good...boltaflex is better but 30% more expensive.
How about boat carpet?are there big differenses in carpet?
...i changed it in both boats this winter and it was a pain in the a job....the original carpet isn,t availeble in my country(besides the bayliner stuff)
so i used some nylon waterproof carpet...it looks good lets hope it stays that way.cross my fingers

My 99' Tige did have a plush interier till the seats ripped all to hell down the middle. The seam was allways wet, and ripped out from stepping on it getting in and out of the boat. I had the seats redone in super heavy duty vinyl, something like 30 mil or so. I had them just do a smooth seat, no bolster or anything. Does not look quite as cool but way more durable and easy to clean.
That and a new barn for the boat to live in and the seats should last forever.

I have a quick question/comment. I have a '95 Maristar. The vinyl is hodling up great, but the stitching came undone on my sundeck. I had it re-stitched this winter, and it looks new again.... My question, has anyone ever heard of applying Vaseline to vinyl to restore/preserve? The guy who did the sundeck does mainly boats and said they do it all the time to extend the life of the vinyl. After re-stitching, he applied Vaseline and let it sit in the sun for several hours, and it looks great, much better than before. Just wondering if anyone has done this in the past and if it extends life.....

jciscott, From what I've heard, Tigé used thinner vinyl for the seats in '98-'02, and stepped up to thicker 40oz. vinyl in '03 (same for '04).
Regardless, i'm a firm believer in keeping boats indoors when not in use. It makes everything last longer when the boat is not constantly exposed to the elements.

| Mils is its thickness (thousands of an inch, eg. 4mil = .004 inches). The higher the mils, the less it is prone to tearing and it resists scuffs better.
