Edge toward the wake and build line tension (progressive) - as you ride up the wake, wait for the pop and then put your trailing ear on your trailing shoulder - ride the board "into the sky" and you will make the "correct" backroll rotation. _________________ www.led-concepts.com |

When you come into the wake try not to throw your head down when leaving the wake as this usualy results in a mexican. Realy try to pin your ear to your leading shoulder all the way around keeping your eyes OPEN and look for the water. good progressive edge as tparider said and do not DROP YOUR HIPS AT THE WAKE. leave the wake with you lead hip and your board perpendicular to the wake, with TWO hands on. good luck.
Get a video clip of it if you can and post it. |

Hey Kuehn - What do you mean by the dropping of the hips at the wake? Like squatting down before you take off kind of? How do you correct this? (I think this is another thing I'm doing wrong)... _________________ www.led-concepts.com |

| Yep, common problem. really try to resist with the weight on your heels all the way through to the top of the wake. if you squat at all you LOSE your edge and the LINE TENSION you need for the roll is gone. Next time you go out dont take such a big cut out and really try push down and RESIST with the back of your heels and see how you get on. Do one thing at a time. could do with a clip posted! |

I really just started wakeboarding last year but have been snowboarding for quite a long time so I will just tell you what I experienced. The backroll feels very similar to a "wildcat" type backflip on a snowboard. Spotting the landing feels exactly the same as it does on snow, which is why this trick is easy for a snowboarder like me to pick up even with minimal wakeboarding skills.
This being my first post I would just like to say thanks to all of you who actually do know something about wakeboarding and are willing to offer advice it has been very helpful to this newbie. |

Or Mexi-roll for short.

No, it's trailing. If your stance is regular you want to throw your head towards your right (trailing) shoulder. _________________ Terminate high thinking |

If you look over your trailing shoulder it forces you to duck your head into the rotation, causing a more 'flippy' mexican roation. |
You are right my friend, as am I. I think our differences lay in our wording. By 'throw your head to your trailing shoulder', I didn't mean look over your trailing shoulder, that would definitely give you a dirty ol' Mexican Perhaps I should have said roll your head towards your trailing shoulder, look over your leading shoulder?
Regardless, I believe your explanation was better.
Cheers! _________________ Terminate high thinking |

I just went out and threw a few on the tramp. They can be done both ways, and from memory I used to do them more the way I described, but without realising it I have changed to your method. Throwing towards your trailing shoulder feels uuuugly.
Also, looking over your leading shoulder spots your landing better on the water. I remember now that when I was first trying backrolls I was landing virtually blind, quite often catching a heelside edge, mexiroll style.
I submit to the greater power
