| Yeah - I made one a few weeks ago. It turned out pretty nice too. Total cost - $30. I still have to mount it, but I think it's gonna work just fine. This one only holds one board, but it'd be just as easy to build one for two or more. It's made from thick 1/4" galvanized pipe completely covered by soft black rubber tubing. The arms are capped off with black rubber "cane ends", which are basically just black rubber end-caps. The finished product is really basic looking - no bling factor at all. But they don't look cheap or stupid either and I know they'll work just fine. Tight fit on the board, solid strong construction, cheap to make. The board is held in by a bungee cord. The rack is mounted to the tower with a clamp assembly that I got at the hardware store and painted black. I also bought a thin strip of rubber to put between the clamp and the tower, so it wouldn't scratch and would grip better. I'll try to post some pics soon, but I don't have a digital camera so it may take awhile. |

Buergday, can you describe a little more in detail about your rack? I've been wanting to make a cheap one for some time, but haven't come up with anything good. Your idea sounds like it's pretty good. Specifically, I'd like more detail on the clamp you used and the way that your galvanized pipe was attached to the clamp. Thanks,
Steve

Seriously, 250 bucks for a chunk of metal? Why are board racks so expensive? _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

I'm gonna try and post a pic today or tomorrow. I had to ditch the clamp assembly though - it wasn't gripping right and would probably have moved in rough water. I opted to drill my tower instead . It'll hold much better that way though. It'll also mount on a vertical or horizontal bar now. I'm mounting vertical because I just have a Monkey Bar. I also made a few modifications last night that make it really safe for the edges of the board. I can't wait to try it out. Like I said before, it's not as pretty as a billet rack - no shiny parts or cool emblems, but I can tell its gonna work out great. Just check this post again later tonight or tomorrow morning for pictures and a description on how to build one in about an hour, for $30 in parts. I just have to take some pictures first. |

There was a great article a few months back titled "How To Build 6 x 9 Speaker Tubes" here at wakeboarder.com. I could not find it online again but did save it off as a PDF file. I've posted it (350K file) to: http://www.monstertower.com/Howtomake6X9SpeakerBox.pdf It uses wood that is shaped to fit the oval shape. Looks like a great result.
There's also a guy online at http://www.overland.net/~moose/flyer3.html who shows how he made them using a 6" PVC pipe.
I saw a tower recently that used Bose 151's and had a decent bracket to attach it to the tower that looked homemade. I think Fly High uses the 151's as well, not pretty boxes but they do sound good.
