|
|
| I'm installing a system and want to use some low restriction check valves. Is there such a thing and where would be the best place to find them? I've used check valves for my irrigation system from Home Depot, but I think they'd be a little restricting for a ballast system.

I found some online. They are ok but have a spring to keep the valve sealed. Causes extra strain on the pumps when filling. Seem to work ok though. Still, the jabsco pumps are barely strong enough to work in this application. Best to find check valves with a simple diaphram valve. Easier on the pumps overall.

Actiondcpd,
Are you taking out the existing system. What are your plans? How much weight will the new system hold.

| Lucky, I'm adding two simer reversible pumps to fill a 600lb sac in the locker and two 350's on top of the stock ballast tanks (flat) in the back of a 2001 SAN. I debated adding sacs up front but i'm just going to use lead since my rear storage will now have sacs taking up all the room. I was originally planning on just filling and emptying out the bottom (new thru hull fitting) but I think it would be cool it pump it out the sides. If it is too much work on the pumps I might forget the over the sides idea and just go simple.

| Sounds good, I am gathering ideas. I am picking up a 2000 SAN on Saturday and it has only the 2 rear tanks. I know I'll want a little more weight but want it to be all auto....

| Lucky, Congrats on the boat... i'm sure you'll love it. If you ride in fresh water your wake will be good with the stock ballast, and fantastic with the setup i described. I'm with you on the auto... i can't stand filling the sacs manually anymore.

I plan on removing the hardtanks and putting 3 valve fly high sacks in. 550 pds each, your plumbing will work, except for the ballast gauges reading full. I am also going to plumb a 550 in the center locker also. Will have pictures up as soon as it is done.

Mike D,
That sounds good I can't wait to hear how it goes. How difficult will it be to remove the hard tanks. I haven't even picked the new boat up, so I haven't been able to take a close look at the tanks.

Mike D..
Could you please send me the pictures when you are done? I have just bought a 2001 CC supersport, without the ballast tanks... have two 550 lbs fatsacks in the back lockers and one 350 lbs in the skilocker. Do you also have some weight in the front ?
thanks.

not sure what a check valve is, but would this work like a bleed valve?
I'm thinking of using a total of 4 bags, with one reversable pump each. Using bags w/ two fittings, I'd put the pump on one fitting and a hose going out via a thru-hull fitting, with an adjustable one-way valve inline. The valve needs to be adjustable to close when water passes through it, but let air escape... yet not let air in, moving backwards. Make sense?

wviveen,
you need to buy one of my ballast panels for your supersport, has four 3 way marine switches on a carbon fiber panel. You can screw it in on a flat section of you helm. Wire up some simers or 1000gph aerator pumps etc. fill/empty your bags automatically.

this would make your bags automatic, you will either have to tee off the intake or drill a hole for a scupper if you go aerator valves.
