What do you look for in the wake a boat makes?
narrower wake, more peak at the top with less volume of water. It has
more compression creating a vertical wake.
OR
wider wake, less peak at the top with a higher volume of water. Less
compression creating a wider wake.

| I look for a big solid wake. Never bothered to check the compression.

I like hard transitional wakes that stay big and clean around 22-24. Hella weight spread out. I like a clean crisp lip thats predictable and doesn't wash or spike up from the slightest change in conditions. I like the wake to be so big and well-formed that you can 'pump' off the swell and up the wake for extra pop. Too steep or narrow can make for a bucking wake w/ inconsistent pop.
All this talk and the water temp is about 45. AAAGH.

| Big is key....... Small wakes are not as much fun..... If your boat planes off it does not have enough weight

| just wondering, I just decided to try wakeboarding one day after I saw it on tv so I went out and bought a board from the local ski shop, and get pulled behind my 18.5 foot Mariah. From knowing some people that know what they are doing, one owning an x-star, he likes to ride at about 17-18 mph but he has cruise control. My boat doesnt and it seems to not like staying on a consistant plane at that speed with it trimmed down, does anyone know how to keep it consistant?

| Ripper, I'll bet that the dude you say who rides at 17-18 mph only weighs 50-60 lbs. There is no way a regular sized guy rides at that speed. I weigh 160 and need to go at least 20 mph. I prefer 23 mph though. 20 causes me to sink a bit and feel sluggish.

| Oh yea, my wife weighs 110 and likes 21 mph. She can ride at 19, but has a harder time.
