|
|
| Anyone thought of adding small side fins on a homemade wakeskate? Feedback on positives/negatives would be appreciated. Putting griptape on my homemade concave this weekend, will post pics when done.

| I saw an article I think somewhere on WakeWorld where someone put Trip side fins on a skate. It's got instructions and all that, not like you really need them though.

If the fins are on the side you wouldnt be able to boardslide with it.

| what size/type of fins would you get i think a four fin set-up would work really well on a skate cause you could slide it out easier since you would be using smaller fins but still hold edge really well. maybe even angle them a little like the parks board.

nope grubb never uses fins i think but if u prefer w2w tricks then thats fine but if u prefer slides and more tech tricks like shuv-its and crap like that then its just another thing to get in ur way so its up to u but it would help on w2w tricks i think

| found some small cupped side fins ( .6" high ) like the trip side fins with a UK fin manufacturer, so reckon i'll give them a shot. being a beginner i need something for w2w, but the larger fins i have now do catch too much.

Tested this board last night for first time. Works awesome, bites real hard when on edge but slippery as anything when flattened off. Found that it worked best when you exaggerate your turns (dig harder on the edge than normal). I never ride with fins so found I could cut in at the wake much harder, more like when wakeboarding, and therefore get more air off the wake. My little brother had a crack and found he could cut harder than on his board which has 1.0” double up fins. When he was cutting hard away from the wake only the very back edge was in the water, the nose was a good foot and a half out of the water (no BS, at least 2 times higher than with his other board). More of a wake to wake board really, I prefer riding my concave deck (this ones a flat deck) for skatestyle stuff.

| TL, is that a new wakeskate? it looks like the company behind it totally stole the byerly flo -thru channels. Didn't they patent that?

The Headless Chicken, I made it myself, ya I based it on the Byerly wakeboard. No wakeskates around seemed to have them so thought bugger it. After test driving mine I would highly recommend that Hyperlite bring out a board with them (I'm sure they've already been testing them since they brought out the wakeboard).
