flip cutter,
i don't get it. when you buy a protec helmet, it comes with the right padding (given that you bought the one made for water).

Capix is a low budget version of a baseball helmet. The padding sucks ass!
the bucketing effect is 10x worse than any helmet out there. |

I always thought the bill on the Capix helmet seemed retarded, like the thing was designed more for image, i.e. to minimize the helmet's impact on the rider's "coolness", than for function. _________________ We are wakeboarders and our culture is advanced beyond all that you can possibly comprehend with one hundred percent of your brain. |

The Capix looks cool, but for function they suck. I've seen many people crack them in half by dropping them onto a concrete floor.
I'd say go with the Pro-tec. I think what flip cutter was trying to say was buy the wakeboard specific model - not the skate model. The wakeboard helmet has closed-cell foam so it won't soak up water, whereas the skate ones do. I use a skate Pro-tec when I wear one on the water and it's fine - I don't mind it soaking up a bit of water. |

$25 is the difference. The Capix is around $35 and the Pro-Tec is around $60, though I think you might be able to get a bit of a discount on the Pro-Tec. _________________ We are wakeboarders and our culture is advanced beyond all that you can possibly comprehend with one hundred percent of your brain. |

| The only thing I don't like about the capix is that it tends to come off on hard falls. |

| Great just when you want it, it comes off! I've been looking at them priced over the web and found two pro-tec helmets. One is the "wake helmet"($59), the other is the "water helmet"($39) would anyone be able to tell me the difference. I know they are shaped differently and I believe the chin strap is a little different. Any input...Also the Capix is like $34 |

For one thing, the wake helmet has ear flaps which should HELP prevent ear drum damage. The other thing is that it looks like the water helmet just has foam padding on the inside where the wake helmet has cloth covered foam with changeable velcro "fit pads". There is one in front and one in back and there are two thicknesses for each (four total). You put in whichever of the fit pads give the best fit. _________________ We are wakeboarders and our culture is advanced beyond all that you can possibly comprehend with one hundred percent of your brain. |

First off, ProTec makes helmets for many different sports. The water helmet uses a harder white padding that kayakers use alot, I used to own one for kayaking. The wake helmet has a much softer and much more comfortable helmet liner, custom fit padding pieces, neoprene chin strap, and ear flaps. The ProTec is going to offer alot more padding and alot better fit for any fall, and if properly fitted and tightened will have very minimal bucketing affect. I could see where the Capix helmet would have a greater chance of bucketing and causing injury with the protruding cosmetic bill.
IMO Capix helmets got their popularity from the Pointless crew wearing them. Nothing wrong with that, but that's why I think that some people like the Capix helmet better. |

| Cool, I think I'm going to look into getting the wake helmet. My dad is funny, I've never been knocked out or anything while riding, but as soon as he saw me hit a slider for the first time he flipped. So I can get him to buy me one, thanks pops. It sounds like the wake helmet is going to be a lot better choice. The A-Frame at the lake is going down...oh yes... |

| The ProTec is very comfortable, I forget I have it on when I'm riding. My only complaint is the ear flaps can (and have) fall off. They are just secured with snaps. I'm going to fix them on permanently with epoxy. |

I've been riding a Protec all year. I've yet to complain about any part of the helmet. When worn properly there is no bucketing effect. The '04 Shapiro edition has had a change in padding as well as snap on ear flaps, you can now customize the padding a little better than the previous years. I'll have to agree that the Protec by far is a better helmet IMO. It's already saved my life once! Don't be a fool anf take price over PROTECtion! Spend a little money to PROTEC your head! _________________ WAKEBOARDING IS NOT A HOBBIE IT'S A LIFESTYLE!! |
