Which boat:

1989 ski nautique 2001 w/ 1400 hrs. $8,000 or
1987 ski nautique 2001 w/ 330 hrs. w/ tandem trailer $10,000

The 89 is well taken care of but that seems like a lot of hours. Will we have trouble with it in the near future? The 87 is also very clean and comes with a tandem axle trailer which is a big plus. I know the 89 has the power plus tranny and improved hull, but is 1400 hrs too much? Does the tranny effect the boat that much? Any suggestions appreciated.

I would get the 87. Same hull with less hours and a tandem trailer. But, I cant speak for the trans. I have an 86' and dont know about the new transmission.

That's a big difference in hours. I would go with less hours unless their is a significant difference. Get them both checked out by a mechanic, it's only about $150.

i would go with the 87 no doubt. rule of thumb is for a very busy season of boating you will put 100 hours on a boat(and thats hard to do)so the 87,even though its one year older(big deal)you have 10.70 seasons before you have 1400 hours on it. thats a very long time. also with 1400 hours on a boat there is alot more maintenance that should have been done.as long as the 87 was stored properly and in good condition..to me its a no-brainer! and i dont know but i seriously doubt the tranny makes a big difference. hope i helped.

oops my bad, I meant to say the 87! for sure.

1400 hours is a lot. I had 860 on my boat I just sold. It still ran and performed excellant but 1400 is almost double.

87 the hours will keep you away from any trouble for a while and help with resale.

OK, the 87 or...

1989 ski nautique 2001 w/ 400 hours? (same price)

The 87 is a little cleaner and has a tandem axle trailer so this is a tough one.

Please help!

the Second 89(400 hours) sounds damn good. A tandem trailer is nice to have, but unless you plan on towing long distances a single axle will probably be fine, if not a new trailer won't run you that much. (you might even be able to pick one up used)
